The Best Scenes From A Christmas Story

Everyone loves the movie A Christmas Story. It came out in 1983 (the year I was born) and I've watched it ever since. They play it for 24 hours straight (sometimes more) and most families watch it at least once or several times in a row. It has become a tradition to watch just as any other Christmas tradition your family might have. Here is a list of some of my favorite scenes.

1. A bully at school has been pushing Ralphie and his friends around. One day, he can't take it anymore and stands up for himself. He jumps on top of the bully and beats the crap out of him. He also ends up saying a few curse words and his mom hears him. She is understanding though and he's not punished for it. Go Ralphie!

2. Ralphie and his parents go out to buy a Christmas tree. On the way home they get a flat tire. Ralphie's mom suggest that he go outside the car to help change the tire. His dad lets him hold the screws but Ralphie accidentally drops them. He then says the F word and his dad hears him. He tells Ralphie to go to the car. When he's finished the father tells the mother what her son just said and she screams. He ends up with a bar of soap in his mouth.

3. Since Ralphie was punished with soap (for saying the F word) in his mouth he gets upset. He's sent to his room and starts to imagine how he could make his parents feel bad. He imagines that later in life he goes blind. He visits his parents and they discover it was the soap they put in his mouth that caused his blindness. The scene ends with his parents on the floor crying and Ralphie smiling because they feel so bad.

4. On Christmas day the mother was cooking a turkey. She leaves the kitchen for a second and the neighbor's dogs sneak into the house. They see the turkey and eat all of it. The family has to go out and find a restaurant that was open. They find a Chinese place and have their Christmas dinner there.

5. Randy doesn't like to eat food. In one scene his mom tries to encourage him to eat more. She says "show mommy how a piggy eats" so he does. Its very funny and Randy gets a kick out of it. He ends up with mashed potatoes all over his face.

6. The entire movie is about Ralphie wanting a BB gun. He wants one desperately but is afraid his parents won't think he's old enough. On Christmas day he and his brother wake up to find it snowed the night before. They run downstairs and see all of their presents. Ralphie is so excited he almost forgets about what he really wanted. When all the presents have been opened Randy falls asleep and Ralphie goes to sit with his parents. His Dad ask him if he got all he wanted and then Ralphie realizes he didn't get his BB gun. Ralphie's father looks around the room and says Hey what's that over there. I think it's a present for you Ralphie. Why don't you go open it? Ralphie finds a tall package hidden behind a desk. He opens it to find that he got his wish. His dad got him the gun he had wanted all along.
