The Best Shades of Lipstick for Your Skin Tone

Now You Can Have the Perfect Color Every Time.

Have you ever looked at pictures of yourself only to cover your face in shame at how harsh your lipstick was? Quit the embarrassment by choosing your best shade of lipstick. Regardless of your skin's color temperature or shade, or the color of your hair, you can find a shade of lipstick that's right for you. Now you'll be showing off your pictures with pride.

Cool-Toned Skin

When your skin has undertones of blue and pink, go with cool shades of lipstick. If you want to pull off a red lip, blue-toned red will look best against your skin. If subtlety is in order, pale pink lips will add color without adding drama. Cool-toned gals can also pull off purple-tinted or maroon lipstick shades way better than anyone else.

Warm-Toned Skin

Ditch cool-tinted lipsticks if you're warm-toned. The yellow undertones in your skin work best with warm shades such as peach, rust and orange. For sexy red lips, pick yellow- or orange-tinted red. For a neutral look perfect for work, stick with light brown shades that have a slightly warm tint.

Dark Skin

Super light lipstick colors can make darker-skinned ladies look chalky or sick. Instead, choose lipstick shades that are only a few shades lighter or darker than your skin. If you want to go peach or pink, pick a lipstick that's sheer so it will let your naturally lush and dark skin show through the color. Deep, dark reds add a sexy appeal that'll get you noticed.

Medium Skin

You're one of the lucky ones. Your medium skin can pull off nearly any lipstick shade. Aside from picking shades for your color temperature, make sure you don't go too light or too dark. Swath on lipstick that's no more than three shades lighter or darker than your skin. To avoid looking sickly, choose bright lipstick shades with pure, un-muddy color.

Fair Skin

While alabaster skin often causes envy in those privileged enough to be in your presence, it isn't all sunshine and roses. Dark lipstick is a no-no for fair-skinned gals. Only wear lipstick shades a few shades darker than your skin. This means no black lipstick for you. Luckily, you can pull off super bright shades of peach, pink and red that other women can only dream of.

Darker Hair

While hair color isn't as important to lip color as skin tone or temperature, it will still affect how dark or light you go. Ladies with darker hair can pull off darker lipstick shades. Now you can take that brown-tinted lipstick a few shades darker than you could if you had light hair.

Lighter Hair

Dark lipsticks will make you look harsh and sick when you have light hair, much like they do for fair-skinned gals. Accent your blond hair with light shades of brown or peach and vibrant, bright shades of red.
