The Best Shoes for Pregnant Feet

During pregnancy our bodies go through so much. The feet are one of the most affected areas during pregnancy. From lengthening to ever changing width thanks to swelling, pregnant feet are constantly changing size. Feet during pregnancy also suddenly have to carry a lot more weight and can often ache and get sore throughout the day. Wearing the right shoes can make a huge difference in how your feet feel during pregnancy. Use these ideas to pick the right shoes for pregnant feet.

Crocs. While brand name is typically not a major concern, Crocs brand shoes really are one of the most friendly options out there for pregnant feet. The wide design and slightly stretchy molded plastic are both great for ever-growing pregnant feet. Additionally, Crocs are extremely lightweight so they won't add any bulk to already over worked pregnant feet. Finally, crocs provide needed support for feet during pregnancy. While some other shoes may offer the same comfort, most won't offer good support which is important for both your feet and your back during pregnancy. And if you haven't checked out Crocs lately you will be pleasantly surprised by the different styles offered. Crocs are most definitely a great shoe choice for pregnant feet.

Clogs and Mules. Clogs and mules are another shoe option that works well for pregnant women. The open back design of traditional clogs and mules allows your foot to expand in length without needing new shoes right away. Clogs are typically quite wide, accommodating swollen feet as well. Most clogs and mules offer some support for tired legs and achy backs and the open end allows for some air circulation. Keeping your feet cool during pregnancy helps to control swelling. If you need some dressier shoes to adorn your pregnant feet, look no further than a pair of clogs or mules which offer both style and comfort.

Shoes to Skip. Obviously uncomfortable heels or totally unsupportive flip flops are a no-no during pregnancy. But what might be surprising is that sneakers, or tennis shoes, aren't the best choice for pregnant feet either. The ties of these sporty shoes bind pregnant feet and they often get hot. The tight fit does not allow for expansion during swelling. Just as you should be careful which shoes you choose to put on your pregnant feet, you should also be mindful of which shoes to avoid. Save tennis shoes with laces for your pregnancy workouts. Also avoid any totally flat bottomed shoes that lack support, tight fitting boots that do not allow your ankles to expand, and any heel over 2 inches in height.

Choosing the right shoes during pregnancy can really alleviate a common pregnancy symptom of foot pain. While the right shoes won't stop swelling, they will make it more bearable. Invest in a couple pairs of great, comfortable shoes, and those last months of pregnancy will be much easier to "stand."
