I found a great idea at bridalpeople.com where you can order "Save the Date" cards so all your prospective guests can start planning their attendance. One that I really liked is the Darling Duo Save the Date card where you get a package of twenty-five cards and envelopes for $9.05, plus shipping. These are really cute cards that say on the top We're Getting Married then a Save the Date and Invitation to Follow. This way there shouldn't be any excuse about not having enough notice why someone couldn't attend. This would serve as their advance notice of the advance notice of the wedding date. With two notices, how could they not manage to get to your wedding.
Another place to check out is e-bay's wedding store where you'll find everything and anything you could need. The options of cards to announce "Save the Date" or actual wedding invitations is endless. Something special they have on here which I think is just a fabulous idea is the "Save the Date" magnets which are 2" x 3 1/2" magnets that your friends and family can place on their refridgerator so they won't forget to schedule the date on their calendar. Even if they do, they'll have the magnet right there. The magnets also state, other than the obvious about who's getting married, but that an invitation will follow. The average price for the magets is around $55.00 for fifty and the regular invitations can run anywhere from from around $35.00 for fifty simple announcements to something a little fancier for around $200.00. The even have magnets and cards that you can submit your photo and say in the case of the magnet, your photo will be encircled by the months of the year.
If you're more in to being creative and would like to make your own on your home computer, then visit invitationpaper and choose blank invitations to make yourself. There are several choices from the very plain white at about $35.00 for a box of 250 to special borders for up to around $75.00. They also have satin and bows, floral designs, translucent overlays, bride and groom and save the date cards. Having a smaller celebration, then you can also get 50 count boxes of various themes for under $20.00 and then get extra creative by adding your own designs, ribbons and charms.
One other place to check out is mygatsby.com for some other options. The most adorable thing I found here was a blank announcement card where you create your card on a "ring" which slips inside a gift box so it's like they're opening a present. These are blank and are compatible with laser printers and may be compatible with some ink jet printers. You can always order a sample first for $5.00 in order to see if it will work with your printer. The gift box is 5" x 7" and the ring card insert is 4" x 6" and they cost approximately $2.15 each. Not the cheapest way to go, but one of the cutest if you have the means. They also have a design studio section where you can create your own. Once again, if you're feeling creative, you can also choose a do-it-yourself announcement or invitation.
Finally, here is a site that you can make your own and works best with a color printer. Printfree.com gives you many choices to make your own announcements and is extremely easy to use. Once you pick your design, then you would just add in the text you want on the page. There are different options you can choose from as far as how you will fold the announcement depending on what you want it to look like. Once you have your text done you can then print out your cards and fold per the directions they give you. This is a good way to practice on plain paper until you get it looking just how you like it and then print on good quality paper.
