The Best Sports Teams of 2007

Forrest W. Kobayashi
2007 was a great year for sports as a whole, and there were a couple teams this season that really stood out above the rest. Let's take a rundown, sport by sport, taking a look at the best sport teams from major leagues in 2007.

NFL: New England Patriots

They were a dominant force to begin with in the 2006 playoffs, but the New England Patriots truly have come into a class of their own. They are currently 13-0, undefeated, and looking to go 16-0 for the first time since the 1972 Miami Dolphins. Led by their franchise quarterback Tom Brady, wide receiver Randy Moss, and inside linebacking presence Tedy Bruschi, the Patriots were truly the class of the NFL. They will be a contender for the Super Bowl in 2008.

Runner Up: Indianapolis Colts

MLB: Colorado Rockies

Sure, you have the Boston Red Sox, who ended up winning it all in the World Series this year, but I would have to say that the Colorado Rockies truly had a spectacular season. They were simply a mediocre NL West team to begin the season, but as the season wound down, they started on an incredible winning streak and made it into the MLB playoffs. There, they won their first seven playoff games, sweeping the Phillies and the Diamondbacks to go to the World Series. Led by second baseman Kazuo Matsui, first baseman Todd Helton, and outfielder Matt Holliday, these Rockies were simply unstoppable and had an amazing run going at the end of the season. Look for them to have another great season in 2008, but I don't think they can have a run nearly as well as they did this season.

Runner Up: Boston Red Sox

NBA: San Antonio Spurs

Everyone thought that the odds on favorite to win it all would have been the 67-15 Mavericks, but the Spurs never got discouraged and stepped up their game in the playoffs. They ended up sweeping the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals, embarrassing young star LeBron James in the process. The Spurs are led by their big-man, Tim Duncan, and guard Manu Ginobili, who were absolutely phenomenal in the playoffs. Don't count out Tony Parker, either, as he was a key cog and floor general for them.

Runners Up: Dallas Mavericks / Detroit Pistons

Other Teams/Leagues:

Nascar: Jimmie Johnson, #48 Lowes, Jeff Gordon, #24 Dupont

NHL: Anaheim Ducks
