The Best Street Food and Coffee: Seattle

Sarah Toce
If you're looking for great food while keeping the cost at a minimum, the following three food carts in Seattle will have you covered.

Skillet Street Food - Parked at four different locations one day per week, Skillet Street Food serves up the best (and most interesting) food fare for $10.00 or less (credit cards and cash is accepted). It's hard to miss the shiny, metallic Airstream trailer in the parking lot when it rolls into its scheduled location for the day. Go on and mosey right up to it before the line forms and you're left waiting for the next thirty minutes. For schedule, food, pricing and locations, visit their website: http://www.skilletstreetfood.com.

Tacos El Asadero - Nothing says West Coast like the taco cart! This is one of the better ones. Located on Rainier Ave. S. a few minutes from downtown Seattle, Tacos El Asadero serves tacos the way they were meant to be served - hot, fresh and tasty. Enjoy an entire meal for under $5.00 and meet some new friends along the way. Cash only. Visit the following website for more information on Tacos El Asadero: http://www.lostacotrucks.com/seattle/2005/08/tacos-el-asadero.html.

Dante's Inferno Dogs - When you're hungry for an old-fashioned hot dog, try Dante's Inferno Dogs located at 1752 NW Market Street in Ballard. Be sure to check out their website because Dante's Inferno Dogs travels to other venues as well (University Village and Bellevue, to name a couple of other locations). These hot dogs are hot - literally (although, you can get them served mild if you prefer). Alternatively, vegetarian hot dogs are served for the non-meat foodie as well. Visit Dante's website for more information: http://www.dantesinfernodogs.com.

Now, coffee might not normally be considered street food, but this is Seattle we're talking about. Because of this, you must consider visiting the following two coffee stands during your trip to the Emerald City.

Cowgirl Espresso - These cowgirls are getting a lot of flak for wearing next-to-nothing while serving hot beverages to local coffee connoisseurs. Coffee shops across the street are finding it hard to compete with half-naked women serving espresso, but can't help but watch. Visit this popular and controversial coffee stand on Greenwood Ave N. For more information: http://www.cowgirlsespresso.com/main.php.

Espresso Vivace - A local favorite that has expanded to three locations, Espresso Vivace puts the bigger establishments to shame with their custom coffee and espresso popularities. Visit Broadway on Capitol Hill for the original Espresso Vivace location. Check it out before you go: http://www.espressovivace.com.
