Wilkes-Barre is rapidly becoming a great college town. The city has a great college in King's College and a great university in Wilkes University. Both schools are located in downtown Wilkes-Barre and the Barnes and Noble Bookstore in the downtown does a great job supporting them. Students can buy their school books, as well as clothes and other items there. The bookstore and its coffee shop bring the community together, and it is a great place for students and citizens to enjoy cultural events over a great cup of coffee. Let us take a look at the schedule for March 2010 to get an appreciation of the many and varied cultural events the coffee shop has to offer.

The Woman's Weekly Church Book Club meets every Monday and Tuesday. The Men's Weekly Church Book Club meets every Thursday. On March 2 Author Dinesh D'Souza spoke at the Darte Center in Wilkes University and then went to the coffee shop to sign copies of his books. On that same day, the Book Club For the Skeptical and Searching held its monthly meeting. On Friday nights, local musical artists perform at the Cafe. The shows are free to the public. On Friday March 5, Adam Burke performed live music. On Sunday March 7 the cafe hosted a charity event known as the Souper Bowl Crawl. The event raised funds for the St. Vincent De Paul Soup Kitchen. On Friday, March 12 their was live music from Sparrowsong. March 19 featured a Third Friday Art Walk, in which talented artists displayed and sold their art work. On March 26, there was Live Music by Ashes for Trees. On Saturday, March 27, Author Sarah Tolliver held a book signing. Tuesday, March 30 was Open Mic Night. Sunday March 14 was St. Patrick's Day Storytime. This was parade day in Wilkes-Barre and the cafe had a special St. Patrick's Day Storytime which was followed by hat decorating in the Cafe. Every Saturday morning featured children's storytime which is followed by crafts.

If you want a great cup of coffee on your way to or from work, Sheets Convenience Store on Route 309 is the place to go. This is also a great place for young people to socialize on the weekends.

Denny's Restaurant up the street on Rout 309 is a great place to enjoy a great conversation over a cup of coffee. The restaurant never closes and has plenty of private tables.
