The traditional "best time to buy" a new TV has been the week leading up to the Super Bowl. With the holiday rush over, retailers often offer deep discounts in order to clear out inventory following their biggest buying season but this may not be the best time to buy.
Instead of buying into the normal buying cycle try buying around it. Beginning in November, Black Friday sales often feature the best deals on televisions of the year. To get these deals though, be prepared to study the ads and even spend the night outside your local electronics store as the extraordinarily low prices create greater competition. You will also have to settle for whatever models retailers have chosen as loss leaders so if you have a particular brand in mind, this route can be hit or miss.
For great deals on the entire selection of TV's, try buying when no one else is: spring. Buying during this timeframe allows you to avoid the holiday, Super Bowl, and back to school seasons. Manufacturers and retailers are highly motivated to stimulate demand and lowering prices during the spring doesn't affect sales in the normal peak seasons. This makes it the perfect time for smart shoppers to get a great deal on whatever set you've had your eyes on.
Whether your goal is to get the cheapest TV or the absolute best, there are always deals just around the corner if you are willing to wait.
