The Best Time to Go to Disney World

Ashley Ford
I think it is safe to say that everyone wants to know when is the best time to go to Walt Disney World. I get this question a lot from various people because I have been to Disney World so many times I have lost count. So here it is, the best time to go to Disney World is December excluding the week of Christmas and the week after and then all the way up to the beginning of March.

Now you are probably curious at why I say this is the best time to go to Walt Disney World. The reason I say this is the best time is because it is considered the "off-season". The benefits of the off-season are smaller crowds, which means shorter lines to all your favorite rides. Also the weather is a lot more bearable in the winter months in Florida than the hot humid weather during the summer.

Another great reason to head down to Orlando at this time of year is because the hotels are a lot cheaper. For example, you can stay at one of the four Disney Value Resorts for as low as $79 a night. If you stay there during the regular season rooms start at $99 a night. So you can save $20 a night.

I know a lot of people are thinking that's not good for me because the kids have school and I have things to do at work. Well I know that some school districts like Georgia for example have a break in February. So if the schools in your area do as well, why not plan a family vacation down to the happiest place on earth.

Lastly, if you come to Disney World at this time of year the gas prices will be a lot cheaper. We all know in the summer months gas shoots up in price. So instead of spending a small fortune on filling up your tank, you could spend the money on a fancy dinner or a souvenir.

So if you and your family hate crowds, longs lines and dealing with the hot Florida weather. You may want to consider heading down to Walt Disney World this winter. I guarantee you will have a great time.

I'm a house wife that loves to drive her Corvette whenever I can. I love all things Disney. I have been going down to Orlando since I was in the 7 th grade 2 to 3 times a year. I love doing anything with my...  View profile

  • Not as crowded during the winter months.
  • Hotel's are a lot cheaper.
  • Gas prices won't kill you.
If you stay at one if the Disney Value Resorts you can get into one of the Disney parks an hour early or stay 3 hours after the park closes.

Not entirely true - to me the LEAST crowded time to go and STILL have warm weather is September into October, when the kids are starting their new school year. We did that last year and the place was empty, no lines but still great weather to be out in the water!

Great tips! We just returned (Jan 4 - 11), and I HIGHLY recommend this time frame. Weather was 80 each day, and we walked right on to many rides in all 4 parks, esp. the first few hours.

If you can deal with slightly larger crowds and more agreeable weather, I would go in April. In April college spring break is over, and the weather in central Florida is similar to June/July in the Northeast. However make sure you avoid the week before, and the week after Easter Sunday, as many people make use of days off associated with that holiday. The best situation is a year with an early Easter. Easter comes early next year: March 23, 2008.

I just wanted to let everyone know that even though the off season may be less crowded BE PREPARED for ill weather. The last time I went in January IT SNOWED!!!!! We FROZE! Also, if you plan on going during the off season know that some of your favorite rides will not be running. We were very disappointed at the fact that parade schedules were not every night so we were forced to purchase the park hopper. I would suggest to people that going in the fall is probably the best option for weather and rides....

Thanks so much for these tips. We went to Disney World for our honeymoon/second anniversary around Labor Day and then a few years later took the kids back in September. Our timing has been around our anniversary but next time we need to go in the winter!
