Italy is surrounded by history in both its architecture and culture. It has ruins from both the Greek and Roman periods, features Renaissance fountains and baroque churches and cathedrals. The splendid landscapes and romance is inescapable and the cuisine of over three thousands years of culture will entice everyone who visits.
Whatever your travel adventure preference, Italy has it to offer. From skiing in the Alps to exploring medieval hill towns or gazing at fine art, it's there to be had in Italy. For romance, variety, or pleasure, Italy cannot be beat. All who visit wish to go back and experience it again.
The climate in Italy varies considerably from one part of the country to the other, with high mountains and low valleys and Mediterranean coasts. In the Alps, summer is the wettest season while in most parts of the north, the distinction between winter and summer is very clear. The further south you go, the milder the conditions become, ending in hot, humid African winds creating stifling summer heat during the peak of the season south of Rome.
The absolute best time to travel to Italy is in the spring (April and May) or autumn (October and November). This is when the scenery is at its most beautiful and the temperatures are relatively even and pleasant, no matter which part of the country you are in. Most of the famous Italian festivals are during April, including Pasqua (Easter).
Shortly after this, during the second week of April, the Landispoli and other food festivals begin. Other festivals, such as the Sagra dei Garagoj are also held around this time. April is, in fact, the favored time to visit Italy as most festivals and celebrations (including Rome's birthday, April 21) are during this month. The world famous Race of the Ring is in the last week of April as well.
The definite worst time to visit is in August, as this is generally the hottest month and is when most Italians take their vacations, so you'll be greeted by closed shops and minimal service. Whenever you decide to visit Italy, be sure to get as much of it as you can, because it's sure to be one of the most unforgettable experiences you'll have!
