At the time that I am writing this article, it is winter. You may not think that you need sunglasses in the winter but it is almost as important at this time of year as in the warmer months. On days when there is snow on the ground and clear skies above, the snow can significantly reflect the sun. Sunglasses can help prevent the glare of the sun from harming your eyes while driving or participating in winter sports.
Summer is the season most people will reach for their sunglasses. You are much more likely to have serious damage done to your eyes this time of year. The reason for this is that the sun produces more ultraviolet UVA and UVB rays during the summertime than at any other time of the year.
The sun is consistently producing harmful rays during the hot summer months, and most people enjoy spending their free time outside whenever they can. The intense heat and light during the middle of the day often prompts people to reach for their suncsreen. It is important to be just as proctective as your eyes as you are your skin. Always make sure you have a pair of sunglasses with you before heading outdoors during the summer months
Participating in water sports can be a lot of fun during the summer but may become a bit uncomfortable if you forget your sunglasses. Same as with snow, the sun reflects off of water and the harful rays go straight into your eyes.
Another reason you may want to reach for your sunglasses is when you take certain medications which can can cause photosensitvity. Some of these medications may include those used to treat psoriases or certain antibiotics or birtch control pills.
No matter what time of year it may be, it is wise to protect your eyes with sunglasses. Choosing to make a concsious decsion now may save you years of discomfort and costly medical bills later. Make it a habit to always have a pair of sunglasses near by and put them on whenever you head outisde or at the very least keep them nearby for those days the sun is our regardless of the time of season.
