The Best TV Show of the '80s

Kimberly Ware
Growing up in the 1980's was filled with many fun memories of being a teenager. The television shows were a great portrayal of why this era was called the awesome '80s, a wonderful time for being a kid. As far as I can remember there were more TV shows that were geared towards the young adult audience than it is today.

The following are my list of the best TV Shows of the 1980's. The first show is the Facts of Life. The Facts of Life is one my personal favorites sitcoms. The show's themes song still radiates in my head every time I think about the show. I used to sing along with the theme song when ever it came on TV. This sitcom is about four teenage girls from totally different worlds, such as Blair who came from a rich family and was totally into fashion and JoAnne who came from a middle class family and was a tomboy. During that time I literally felt like I could relate to the main characters, Dorothy (Tottie), Blair, JoAnne (Jo), and Natalie. Every time I look at the show it still brings back memories of my teenage years.

The next best show on my list is Fame. Fame was a musical drama that took place in New York during the 1980's. Fame was originally a movie. Due it its success at the movie theaters, Fame was then turned into a TV series. It was the 1980's version of today's High School Musical. As a young adult, I was a dancer and I still have a love for arts and entertainment. Watching this movie takes me back to memory lane with the dance, the music and the outstanding cast.

Another favorite TV show during the 1980's was the Cosby Show. The Cosby Show was the first sit com that had a positive middle class image for African Americans. I still can remember the main characters of the show. I was about the same age as the character, Vanessa, when the show aired on TV. I fell in the love the characters (Dr. Huxtable, Clair Huxtable, Denise Huxtable, Theodore (Theo) Huxtable, Vanessa Huxtable, and Rudy Huxtable. When I was a kid, I could not wait to get home to see the next episode of The Cosby Show. This show is definitely a true classic.

The last top show is Dallas. Dallas was a prime time soap opera. My mother was a true Dallas fan and she was the one who got me hooked on the show. This soap opera was definitely filled with lots of drama and the story line was filled with many twists and turns. You just did not know what was going to happen next. And who shot J.R. Ewing? The villain J.R. Ewing always had you on the hedge of the seat because you just did not know what he was going to do next. I loved this show so much that I could not wait to Friday night to watch it. Every week the show left with an intense cliff hanger that you look forward to seeing the next episode. No wonder this show lasted so long.

The 1980's was one of the best decades of my life besides the 1970's in which the decade I was born. The TV shows of this era bring back a lot of joy and precious memories. There are some more shows that I enjoyed during the 1980's that I did not mention in this article. If I wrote more, then I would just have to turn it into a book. The 1980's TV shows will always be remembered and cherished for a life time.
