The Best TV Show of the 80's Is..

Sammy Bones
Using a list of the 1980'2 TV shows from www.crazyabouttv.com and www.entertainment-searches.com, I surveyed 200 people and the number one choice for best TV show of the 80's was a show that I added to the list myself. Perhaps it did not make the list because the show first started in 1979. The Dukes of Hazzard ran well into the 80's so it easily qualifies for a TV show of the 80's. I do want to point out that I did the survey in Tennessee which could have swayed the vote since it is a southern style show.

The Dukes of Hazzard was a show that captured audiences with its movie like attributes. Drama, comedy, sex appeal... it is all there. With Waylon Jennings as the narrator and performing the shows theme song "Good Ol' Boys", how could this show not be a southern style show?

Another great reason for The Dukes of Hazzard being my choice for the best show of the 80's is due to the southern scenery and location looks. It really captured many small towns in the south and showed what it would be like living on a dirt road. Since many kids grow up in huge cities, it was a chance to bring the country into your living room one episode at a time.

You also do not have to be an attractions expert or scientist to figure out that having Catherine Bach wear those "Daisy Dukes" shorts played an important part of the appeal. How many shows had a type of wardrobe named after a character in the show?

Although local law enforcement may be smarter than Roscoe P. Coltrane... it was entertaining to see how Bo and Luke Duke manipulated the Sheriff. I am glad that in real life society our Sheriff Department can leave us "long haired country boys alone" as Charlie Daniels once said.

The confederate flag on top of the General Lee may have stirred controversy about racism, but as a kid from 10-14 years old watching the show, I did not associate the flag with racism, but simply a cool decoration on a cool looking car and the flag was a was of letting the world know what region of the United States the show was suppose to take place in. Most young boys of the Dukes era hoped to someday own a car like the General Lee. "The Dukefest" sponsored by CMT (Country Music Television) shows a large number of General Lee replicas that prove that the car was cool. Even though I personally do not want a replica of the General Lee as an adult, I am still a fan of the "Daisy Dukes". Don't hate me.
