The Best TV Shows of the 80's

The 80's were a great time in the entertainment department. The 80's gave us music videos, the first computers, and some great television shows. Ronald Reagan was President, hair was big, and Reality TV was the CBS Evening News. Television in the 80's was fun. It was more wholesome. Two of the best 80's TV shows were MacGyver and The A Team.

MacGyver was funny. He was inventive. MacGyver could get out of any situation with a hair pin and a piece of string. The suspense was excruciating! My older brother tried to be like MacGyver. We were both excited by science and the things we could do with it. We both wanted to learn how to escape when we were tied to a bomb in a wine cellar. MacGyver had beautiful villainous women. So few programs showed women as anything more than arm candy, but on MacGyver women could be the brains of the operation. Regardless of whether the villain was male or female their plot was always foiled by MacGyver. As smart as he was, he was a little bumbling which made the show funny. When sitting down to watch MacGyver I always wondered what stupid thing he was going to do to get himself in trouble and what brilliant thing would he do to get him out.

Another fun television show was The A Team. Who didn't love Mr. T? Mr. T was the original King of Bling. Mr. T was so tough, but they had to drug him every time The A Team had to fly somewhere because he was afraid of flying. A lot of kids idolized him. My brothers had Mr. T action figures (dolls). He did appearances in our community a couple of times and we begged and begged until my parents let us go. My husband loved The A Team because "they blew up a lot of things". The A Team wasn't just Mr. T. The entire show was about doing the right thing. It was entertaining, but we learned the rules of life: don't do drugs, always help those in need, and do what Mr. T says.

80's television shows have the ability to transport us back to our childhood. The world was our playground and life was the endless highway stretched out in front of us. Today 80's television reminds us of the diners we ate in along the way.
