The Best TV Shows on DVD

C. Moss
There's nothing quite like having your own controlled marathon of your favorite television show in your living room. There are so many shows that I need to either catch up on or collect. However, I don't consider myself a huge television fan, but I have my special programs that I like to watch weekly. Sadly, a lot of good shows are no longer on the air. However, most have gladly made it on to our shelves for our viewing pleasure.

I'm going to start with one of my favorite shows of all time. CSI. And in case you are wondering, I only care for the original. I started getting into the show back in summer of '06. I was surprised to see how well written and acted the show really is. Where had I been all that time? I knew about the show when it first came on, but I was a freshman in high school and I wasn't particularly interested. And now I'm kicking myself for that.

I got the DVDs for Christmas two years ago and I have sat through a couple of marathons since I have received them. Anyone who has seen the show knows how cool these characters really are. And you don't see chemistry like this very often on a series. There are so many stories that have stayed with me after watching an episode. And with a show like CSI, it could really go on forever if it wanted to.

Everybody needs a little help from their friends. How can anyone not like Friends? This comedy is worth watching because it's just too funny for words. I like how all of the characters are so different from one another and it was great for them to acknowledge that from time to time on a personal level.

What made the show a hit was the camaraderie that was pleasantly clear from the get go. And who doesn't remember the Smelly Cat song lyrics? Little things like this made it fun to talk about the next day with some friends or co-workers. There were definitely a lot of water cooler moments.

Six Feet Under is probably my favorite show of all time. I'm a sucker for sadness in life and this show embodies everything that a show is suppose to be. A great television drama has you so entwined with the characters you feel as if you are going through their hardships. And who knew that a family who lives in a funeral home would become so popular to watch.

I think the Fisher family in general was made up of parts that are in each of us. The characters often spoke of yearning, acceptance, and grief to let us know that life is made up of these elements. And having a family, as quirky as they may be, is the greatest gift that one could own. I think there are tons of well written and directed episodes that are worth watching over and over.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer was not just fir kids. I knew a lot of adults liked this show because of the quirkiness it held onto so tightly. First of all, Joss Whedon is an idol of mine. He had a unique vision with this show and it played well people of all ages. And I think that was the greatest outcome of all. The best part about it was the fact that it wasn't actually about vampires per se. It was actually about a teenage Slayer going through the typical high school drama and fighting the 'baddies' at the same time. The whole concept is brilliant and well played. This show also has a huge following to this day.

Does the name Al Bundy mean anything to you? Married With Children has to be one of the greatest comedies of all time. You have a fed up father, a careless mother, an overindulging son, a witless daughter, and a talking dog. What more could you ask for? What makes this show so relatable is the fact that we are or we know someone like them. Many have viewed this show as a typical American family dealing with your every day situations gone bad times twenty.

Crossing Jordan will always be one of my favorite shows. It sadly had to leave a few years ago and I wasn't too happy about that. I always saw it as an underdog dog show because the ratings kept going up and down. Jordan Cavanaugh is the main character and I honestly haven't seen many characters just like her. The show's premise took place in a ME's office.

And I think this show, after CSI, lead many other forensic type shows to begin showing up. This is definitely something worth checking out. There were many plots that were well written and memorable.
