Here is my personal list for the best sports bars in New York to watch the Daytona 500 or any other exciting sporting event you want to catch on television. These are not just great for the Daytona 500, they are also great spots to grab a pint if you're thirsty any day of the week.

1. O'Flanagan's: Irish Sports Bar

Due to my strong Irish roots O'Flanagan's Irish Sports Bar comes in at the top of my list. This bar sure can make an Irish man feel at home! With great live music and dancing this sports bar is a lively place to watch the race! With delicious food, including my favorite place to grab a burger, from seafood to steak O'Flanagan's can feed a hungry sports fan. They also offer karaoke if you are into that sort of things. I usually avoid Wednesday which is karaoke night. But be sure they won't have any karaoke on during the Daytona 500. With 16 flat screen televisions in this bar you are sure not to miss a minute of the big race unless you are in the john. You can go check out O'Flanagan's fine Irish Sports Bar for yourself in New York City in the Upper East Side at 1215 1st Ave. This is located between 65th Street and 66th Street at 6 at 68th St. If you want to speak with them on the phone you can reach them at (212) 439-0660.

2. Coppersmith's

This is a great sports bar located in the popular restaurant Hell's Kitchen. With amazing bar food and all the finest in beer this sports bar is a hot spot not just for celebrities but meant for everyday people like you and me. This place is really made for the "working man" with pints from only 3 dollars and wings to die for. This cozy wooden and brick room gives you the feeling of a friendly place like "Cheers" to watch the 51st Daytona 500. You can go to Coppersmith's in New York City inside Hell's Kitchen located at 793 9th Ave. The cross street for this location is 53rd St. For better directions or more information you can contact them on the phone at (866) 739-4791.

3. Ship Of Fools

This bar is not for the weak at heart. This is a real spectator`s and drinkers sports bar! If you want to be in a crowd of fired up drunk sports fans for the Daytona 500 this bar will be roaring. They have great food and an amazing 42 satellite tv`s including 13 big screen televisions. They also have 2 pool tables, an internet juke-box and 4 separate dart boards for those who want to play a little game of their own while watching the big race. Ship Of Fools is located in the Upper East Side at 1590 2nd Ave in New York City. You will find them between 82nd Street and 83rd Street. If you want to get them on the line give them at shout at (212) 570-2651.

4. Blind Pig

This sports bar is like a step back in time with the old wooden chairs, tables and bar it`s like visiting a watering hole in the 20`s back when booze was in prohibition laws. But don`t get me wrong they have all the modern amenities you need to watch the Daytona 500 in comfort and class including large flat screen tv`s and loud speakers. The Blind Pig is known as "a speak-easy" sports bar because of their loud and roaring slang straight form the 20's. They have great drinks, cheap beer and excellent food to keep you from falling on the floor after all those beers! If you haven't been to the Blind Pig it's a definite experience not to miss with a change from the usual sports bars. You can locate Blind Pig in New York City at 233 E 14th St. This is between 2nd Avenue and 3rd Avenue. If you'd like to call the Blind Pig on the telephone you can reach them at this number (212) 209-1573.

If you love sports, you love to drink and love to cheer loud these four unique sports bars are the place for any man or woman with a good belly to watch the 51st Daytona 500. But don't just take it from me, go see them for yourself and stay for a pint!

  • Whether you are into slang from the 20's or pool and darts this list has it all.
Blind Pig is actually a term for a bar back from the prohibition days.
