One of the only decent 100% vegetarian restaurants located in the Central Jersey area use to be Sunflower House located in Princeton, New Jersey, until it closed several years ago. Much to my surprise, the restaurant reopened as a new eclectic vegetarian restaurant (whereas Sunflower House was Taiwanese) named Zen Palate. Zen Palate of Princeton also has two sister restaurants located in Manhattan, in the Theatre District and another in the Financial District open since 1991. There was one formerly located in Union Square, which closed approximately a year ago due to rent increases. The restaurant includes a medley of vegetarian and vegan options including Chinese, Indian, Italian, and Mexican meat free options.

One of the best things about this restaurant outside the actual food is that they deliver locally and you may order online at OrderOutXpress.comStir-Fried Spinach Linguine. The restaurant may also be appealing to non-vegetarian people looking for a healthy alternative. Although the restaurant does not serve alcohol BYOB is permitted and a corking fee applies. The restaurant uses canola oil and olive oil to cook their dishes and even their fried foods are equipped with industry-leading, nano-technology that shortens frying time while improving color and taste of fried foods. The restaurant has been awarded many titles such as Top 10 Vegetarian Restaurant in the Country by alternativemedicine.com and even Best Vegetarian Restaurant Since 1993 by Vogue Magazine! Every time I have dined here I have dragged along my non-vegetarian dates, and although heavy meat eaters find it difficult to indulge in a non-meat meal they all found the cuisine to be satisfactory (lots of good things have been said about the sweet yam fries!). I have personally found the Zen Burger and the Stir-Fried Spinach Linguine to be both unique and delicious options. I have driven as far as Parsippany to sample vegetarian restaurant and I have found Zen Palate to be the best option outside of New York City (where admittedly there are tons more options). The location is ideal set in the Princeton Shopping Center off Harrison Street with both indoor and outdoor dining in the interior courtyard. The service is excellent and the setting is trendy and serene with a young, hip, enthusiastic staff.
