The Best Ways to Rid Pimples

There are probably as many products on the market for getting rid of pimples as there are people who have pimples. Some of them actually work, while others are simply gimmicks to take your hard-earned money.

As with anything, however, the best way to make pimples disappear is by not getting them at all. For some people, this is very hard, because they may have a hereditary tendency for acne. For others, however, a few changes in diet and lifestyle can help clear up existing pimples and prevent them from returning.

If you're a teen and you're not sure if your problems with pimples are heredity, there is an easy way to find out-ask your parents. If one or both parents suffered from moderate to severe acne (moderate is defined as more than 20 pimples while severe also encompasses a condition known as cystic acne, in which the sores actually form hard, painful cysts), then chances are that you may very well have the same problems.

However, as mentioned earlier, there are ways you can diminish your chances for having a lot of pimples, which you can use in conjunction with medications that have been proven to really work.

Some of the ways you can reduce your chances for getting pimples is by cleansing your face well with a mild cleanser. Don't scrub too hard. Next, use a moisturizer (yes, you need a moisturizer, even with acne) that won't clog your pores. Use just a small amount, and make sure it has an SPF ingredient in it.

Now, take a look at your lifestyle. What are you eating? Do you get enough exercise? Both of these factors can play a role in how bad your breakouts are, as well as in how well they can be controlled.

Avoid greasy, fried foods, as these can increase the oil production in your skin. And, while the jury's still out on whether or not chocolate actually causes skin problems, don't take the risk; instead, enjoy it, but in moderation. Make sure you are getting enough exercise, and when possible, do it outside. A little sunshine is good for your skin. You just don't want to get sunburned.

If you do decide to use medications to rid pimples, you first need to visit a dermatologist. He can tell you the best over-the-counter products to use, as well as determine if one of the prescription medications designed to treat acne (including certain types of birth control pills, if you are a girl) might be an option for you.
