The Best Ways to Romance a Woman

The Old Fashioned Ways Still Work

Charles Ray
In today's metro-sexual age the art of romancing a woman seems to have fallen into disuse. Popular media notwithstanding, my female friends tell me that they still appreciate a man who is skillful at the art of romance - not the lurid, tabloid variety that is vulgarized by movies and gossip rags - the real romance of fairy tales, wine, and roses.

For the young man who wants to be thought well of by the fairer sex, and who wants to be successful in the pursuit of romance, here are some tips that have worked from Adonis to St. Valentine, and are still valid today.

Be considerate: James Bond treats women like objects, to be used and discarded when no longer needed. That might work in the movies, but in real life, women prefer men who treat them with respect and consideration. Holding chairs and opening doors might be scoffed at by many, but these actions are still a sign of good breeding.

Dress well: You don't have to spend a fortune on a wardrobe, or mimic the 'cool' dudes in the cinema, but watch what you wear. Torn sweat shirts, dirty jeans, and flip flops go well at the beach, but don't show up to take your date to the movies dressed like this. If you're taking her to a nice restaurant, consider wearing a coat and tie. And, for heavens' sake, try not to wear a blue tie with a brown suit; and leave the white socks in the drawer.

Show interest in her: Everyone likes to have attention paid to them. You like it, I like it, and your girl friend will like it if you don't spend the evening telling her all about the great things you did this week. Ask her how her day was, or what she would like to do. Ask her opinion about things, and listen when she's talking. Above all, be sincere. Really listen, don't interrupt, and look her in the eyes when she's talking.

Flowers and candy: Some people think buying flowers for your date is corny. Corny it might be, but it shows you think enough of her to go that extra mile. Sometimes corny is the way to go. In addition to flowers and candy, which are old standards, find out what she likes and on the second date present it to her. That does two things; it shows you care, and it shows you were listening to her when she was talking.

Music: Find out what her favorite song is, and get a CD or tickets to a concert. Pick one of her favorite songs is and adopt it as "our song."

When it comes to romance, the old ways are still the best ways. Try it, she'll like you for it.
