MA37 Assault Rifle
In the Halo series, the MA37 Assault Rifle is the default weapon. In most games, the default weapon is mediocre at best. The Halo assault rifle, on the other hand, is a useful tool throughout the game. Not only is it in ready supply, but you will be able to gather ammo for this from dead UNSC soldiers found throughout the game. The MA37 is pretty accurate and packs a decent punch at short to medium range.
Rocket Launcher
There are two rocket launcher types in Halo: Reach - the UNSC's M41SSR rocket launcher and the Covenant's plasma launcher. Both of these weapons pack a powerful explosive projectile that can be used against vehicles and large groups of foot soldiers. In Halo: Reach, the armor lock ability is the easiest way to take out enemy vehicles. However, if you find yourself in a situation where you are up against multiple vehicles and no armor lock, you will just have to stick to old fashioned explosives.
Tip - A rocket launcher and jet pack make a dangerous combination. Use the jet pack to propel your Spartan into the air. From here you will have a birds-eye-view of the battlefield and can easily clear the playing field of large groups of Covenant creatures.
Needler
The needler is my all time favorite. This compact weapon fires crystal spikes. On their own, they do little damage. However, if you strike your target with several spikes, they will explode causing damage similar to a sticky grenade. The needler is best used against Elites. Charge an Elite and stun them with a melee attack. While they are stunned, back up quickly and hit them with a full round of needles. If the needle explosion doesn't finish them off, a quick second melee should do the trick. Halo: Reach also features a rifle version of the needler (known as the Needler Rifle of course). This larger version of the needler has a scope that allows you to hit your targets from long range.
Energy Sword/Gravity Hammer
In most games, melee weapons are often perceived as weak. While it is true that the energy sword and gravity hammer of Halo: Reach have a limited range, the make up for it entirely with power. For this reason, the energy sword and gravity hammer are favorites in Halo's multiplayer arenas. The energy sword allows your Spartan to quickly lunge a good distance forward while simultaneously striking. If you land your blow, your enemy will be killed instantly. The gravity hammer is also one-strike-one-kill, however if you miss, the hammer generates a shockwave that will stun any nearby enemies.
Type-25 Pistol
Normally, I would advise to stay away from handgun-type weapons. They are normally extremely weak and short ranged. However, the Covenant's Type-25 is a personal favorite of mine. Not only do the individual blast carry enough power to keep an Elite or Brute at bay, it also has a semi-heat seeking capability. Hold in your fire button to charge the pistol to full power, take aim, and release. Not only does this hit your enemy at maximum force, the shot will also curve slightly if your aim is off a little. This can come in handy when trying to hit fast flying Drones.
