It is hard to understand
The betrayal that comes from a friend
One where trust is so strongly placed
A bond, once thought, would never end
But in one greedy moment
When opportunity was sought and found
The friendship that cemented two together
Became unglued and crashed to the ground
Forgiveness for the act is offered
For life steeped in anger is no life at all
Live the achievement; take your stolen bows
But as the mighty rise, so must they fall

Post a CommentNOT A GUEST - Excellent betrayal poem. Unfortunately, some friendships are destroyed by this and can never the same again.
Ways of the world, Donna. We all can relate to it! Better to forgive the person but not forget the name! When young, it took me years to get over a betrayal! But not now! I look at circumstances that caused such acts. We need not lose hope as most go out of the way to help us in need and grateful for kind deeds - siva
So sad! You did a good job on this!
Wow, Donna! That is just sad! And sometimes, we just have to 'move on, and leave it behind'. Very good, very touching!
Great depth here!
I can also relate, and I do believe that you captured the depth of it perfectly.
I'm another one who can relate... good work here, thanks!
Strong words but so true. One act of betrayal can damage a relationship forever. :)
Only someone who has been betrayed by a friend could write with such depth. It feels like your soul is pierced with a knife and the friend keeps twisting it. The "stolen bows" reminds me of a friend's betrayal. Long story short - I helped her write a book for over a year. When it was finished, after I'd researched, typed and edited for her, she found a new "friend" who had money to help launch the project and had her "greedy moment". Donna - you hold your pretty little head up high. This person in no way deserves the kind of friend I know you are.
Very powerful, thankfully I can not personally relate!
