They offer most of the choices you would expect from a small family diner. I ordered the open-faced roast beef sandwich, while my date ordered a burger and fries. The food was excellent. The food reminds me of something my grandma would cook me. It wasn't dished out in fancy dishes or have any five star chef touches. It did however taste wonderful and fill me up. Also it didn't take too long to receive our food after we ordered. Looking around the room I saw other dishes with many satisfied faces behind them. They even brought me out enough ranch dressing for my salad, most restaurants underestimate my ranch dressing needs.
The lone waitress that was working seemed to know everyone that came in. Regulars are a good indication that a restaurant is worth the money. The waitress was very friendly even though you could tell she was working in overdrive. She was good about bring us refills on our sodas even though we sucked them down almost as quickly as they came. The Better Half's employees are another good reason to visit this restaurant.
The only problem I had during the whole meal was that their Mountain Dew ran out. I just asked for a Pepsi instead. Aside from this small inconvenience I had no other problems with my visit to The Better Half Family Diner.
When The bill came I was pleasantly surprised. My date and I could get out of there for 20 dollars, tip included. The Better Half Family Diner is a good choice for someone who wants to support locally owned businesses without taking a giant hit in the wallet. After your visit, you are located just blocks from the water. Afterwards, we went for a walk in one of the parks located on the Sandusky Bay. I wish every date night was so cheap.
