The Better Maybelline Cosmetic Concealer

Laura Hickey
Maybelline New York has a variety of good products but not every item is as good as the next. I tried two make up sticks to see which item was the better product. Surprisingly it wasn't the more expensive one.

Maybelline Express is a make up line that claims it cuts the time to do your make up in half. I tried the Express 3 in 1 one make up stick. This product claims to be a concealer, foundation and powder like finish with one easy glide. The item also contains SPF 15 sunscreen. The product itself has a decent amount of shades to choose from. It's hypoallergenic and is oil free.

When applying the product, using a moisturizer before wasn't necessary. The cosmetic glides on smooth and rubs in okay. But as far as being a concealer, it needs more work, it just doesn't look natural on the skin. It doesn't have a strong amount of coverage in the product that others may use to conceal blemishes. It works alright as a light sheer foundation. It doesn't have a heavy feel on the skin.

But it can easily feel oily and slick. You'll want to use some powder because this product doesn't help with shine. It may even give the appearance of enhancing oil on the skin. It was a good idea to have SPF 15 but that might not be enough protection in the coming summer months. It has an assortment of 12 shades to choose from and tends to be used up rather quickly. The other thing express about this item is you'll need to constantly re touch every now and then. And the smell when first applying the product isn't too pleasant. I won't be buying this item again. This item costs around : $6.49

Another product by Maybelline is the "Cover Stick Waterproof Concealer". This product is a much better option from the cosmetics line. It comes in a smaller case and there is less product but it provides good coverage. While it says it glides on easily, a moisturizer is a good idea. Without it, you may experience it hard to rub the product in. It comes in only a few shades. I used the Ivory cover stick during the hot sweaty weather and was surprised at how well this product stayed on. It even stayed on in the pool as this product is waterproof. It successfully covered up blemishes and also red blotchy skin.

It does come off with a little scrubbing. You will want to have SPF on if you're prone to sun burns. You can also use if you like finishing powder or foundation. Unfortunately when the product is almost finished, there's still quite a bit left in the crevice part of it. It can be hard to remove if you try with your fingers. This product doesn't have fancy marketing like the Express make up line, but is overall a better product. This item costs around : $4.99
