The Bible and the Future

Our Future Has Already Been Written

Pat Lunsford
Most of the nations depend on America to supervise world affairs. When a problem develops anywhere in the world, America is expected to take care of it as the world's military and food source. The United Nations headquarters is situated in America and there are prophecies in the book of Daniel which firmly suggest that America will maintain its militarily power throughout the latter days.

However, there is also the Bible's vision (the book of Daniel) of a startling decay in our civilization while the Middle East gains much power. Christian belief has dominated the West for centuries and it has been our faith in Jesus Christ that has protected us and allowed us to hold our position in the world. However, within the last decades our nation has pulled away from God, no longer acknowledging Him as our authority.

Christianity and the commandments of God have been thrown out of our government, which is what the prophet Daniel saw in his vision. Our faith in Christ is what gave us our position in the world. The decline of that faith will lead to political decline.

Evidence of this is everywhere in the ferocity of our times and it is the violence and wickedness that is moving the young people today away from the protection of God. Even those who are still holding to their faith in Jesus, many are not true to the gospel and like the pharisees, they offer outward lip service but inwardly they are cold.

In its rejection of Jesus Christ, the West will fall by rejecting the force that gave them their power. However, Daniel predicts that some faith will remain.

"Therefore in the islands of the sea they give glory to God, in the islands of the sea, to the name of the Lord, the God of Israel." (Is. 24:15)

A time is coming, and is already at our door, when the whole planet is going to be in chaos. Those who continue in their faith and loyalty to Jesus on these "islands of the sea" will hardly sustain the faithlessness of their own people much less the rest of humanity.

Isaiah1:19-20 suggests that there will be isolated groups of Christians with faith strong enough to ward off much of the wrath that's coming. In Daniel's prophecies, political power is going to shift to the East, isolating the United States. When this happens, faith in Jesus will decline rapidly around the world.

The prophecies of Daniel strongly suggest that war in the Middle East will turn into a habitual occurrence as the last days draw near. Furthermore, according to the Bible (Is.4:4) the entire region is bound to erupt into furious war which will continue until the day Jesus Christ returns.

Iran has been increasing it's armory in the way of nuclear weapons and Israel has nuclear weapons already. If even a few nuclear weapons were to be used in a war in this region, it could be devastating to the Europe and Asian population.

In Daniel's prophecies we see that terrible wars will commence worldwide, causing more destruction than has ever been in history. This will be the great tribulation which the bible says WILL happen.

"But when they in their trouble did turn unto the LORD God of Israel, and sought him, he was found of them. And in those times there was no peace to him that went out, nor to him that came in, but great vexations were upon all the inhabitants of the countries." (2Chron. 15:4)

In the last century, much prophecy has already been fulfilled. The Bible tells us our future and according to the Bible we are closing in on the last events of history. Jesus told about Daniel's prophecies of the last days.

"When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place..." (Matt. 24:15)

All of the events leading to today should be a severe warning that Judgment Day is close at hand which makes it imperative that we reunite with Jesus Christ and get the word out to the world. The Bible tells us what has already happened as well as what WILL happen.

"For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief." (1Thess. 5:2-3)

Quoting the Goodnews Christian Ministry, "The signs are clear. Jerusalem has been restored and rebuilt. The Jews are back in Palestine. The Gulf Wars have begun. Sodom and Gomorrah have returned. The forces of the East are stirring at the Euphrates. The age is filled with violence. Even the cosmos has begun to reveal its fiery hand. Twice this century the world has been mobilized for all-out war.

"Take the fig tree as a parable: as soon as its twigs grow supple and its leaves come out, you know that summer near. So with you when you see these things happening: know that he is near, at the very gates." (Mark.13:28-29)
