The Bible Teachings in Judges Chapter 4: Deborah the Prophetess
The Bible Teachings of Deborah a Prophetess in Judges Chapter 4:
Deborah lived in 1209 B.C. she was known for being ZEALOUS (full of character or due to zeal, ardently active, devoted or diligent) a JUDGE (a administrative head of Israel in the period between the death of Joshua and the accession to the throne by Saul), a LEADER (a person or thing that leads, a guiding or directing head) and a WARRIOR (a person engaged or experienced in warfare, soldier, a person who shows or has shown great vigor, courage)
This bible teaching is found in Judges chapter 4. Deborah judged all of Israel at that time. The children of Israel would come to her just to be judged.
In Judges 4:7-10 the lord sent her to speak to Barak of Kedesh in Naphtali (head of their army). So she sent for him. She told him the lord has commanded him to take his army of Naphtali and Zebulun to Mt Tabor. She told Barak that the Lord said he would deliver the captain of Jabin's army (Sisera) unto his hand. That they would be victorious. This was the prophecy. She had told him what was going to happen. But yet, Barak spoke to her and said, I will go if you go, if you do not go, I will not go. Deborah spoke back to him saying "I will go with you." The Bible says that she arose (she stood right up, she did not hesitate) and went with him to Kedash. She had no fear for she remembered what the Lord had spoken unto her. (this shows her faith) The Bible states that Barak gathered together ten thousand men for battle. Then the prophetess with Barak lead the army out toward Mt Tabor. The Bible reads that Sisera abandoned his chariot and fled on foot as they approached. Sisera knew that he was doomed. All the men of Sisera were killed by the sword there was no man left. As Barak went after Sisera a woman named Jael came out to meet him. She told him that the man he was looking for was inside. He went with her inside. There he found Sisera with a tent nail in his temples and he lay dead. The prophecy was fulfilled.
Deborah was a strong woman and held many positions. She was a judge, Prophetess, a warrior and a leader. She lead the troops to war. The Bible reads that Barak would not go unless the prophetess went. He had made that quite clear. Deborah with all her knowledge knew that they were in God's hands. There are women today called of the Lord that would like to have the strength that she had. Then there are also Prophetess today that does have that strength. When studying the women of the Bible many say that Deborah is one of their favorite. She was well known for all of her accomplishments.
