Tension has arisen to a simmering boil on the 50s style stove
Absence makes the heart grow fonder of stronger put downs
Filled with Jack Daniels laced humor and an extra lick of salt
To kick start anybody's heart and make them bob for apples
In the deepest and darkest well just to drown out the bitter taste
Silence overwhelms the room if one of them has the day off
The officer cheers when they both return for their verbal brawls
An Ali versus Foreman type of boxing match without the gloves
Still bloody from their usual knock down drag-out matches
A relationship that would've been much sweeter and sugary
If it was in a past life or one really far into the future
A universe that even Michael J. Fox can't find in Back to the Future
Oh well, this imaginary romance played out with a loud music score
The reality is that the noise doesn't get above a very dull roar
Unless it's just what the sports doctor ordered.
