The Big Bang Bust

C. S. Lewis on the Business of Heaven

Jack Wellman
Does the Big Bang Theory fit a Biblical description and explanation of creation? Does one eliminate the other possibility? Can they co-exist? A resounding yes to the first question and an emphatic no to the second.

C.S. Lewis, a former atheist, plainly says, 'If the solar system was brought about by an accidental collision, then the appearance of organic life on this planet was also an accident, and the whole evolution of Man was an accident too. If so, then all our present thoughts are mere accidents-the accidental by-product of the movement of atoms. And this holds for the thoughts of the materialists and astronomers as well as for anyone else's. But if their thoughts-i.e. of materialism and astronomy-are merely accidental by-products, why should we believe them to be true? I see no reason for believing that one accident should be able to give me a correct account of all the other accidents. It's like expecting that the accidental shape taken by the splash when you upset a milk jug should give you a correct account of how the jug was made and why it was upset.' [1]

The Big Bang Theory continues to fall out of favor with many scientists today. The theory holds that at one moment in time, all matter in the entire universe was so small as to appear invisible. All matter that has ever existed, at this most finite of point, has expanded outward ever since. But, where did this matter come from? Something can not come from nothing. What caused matter to come into existence in the first place? It had to have had an original cause. Even if the Big Bang explains the origins of the universe, it can not explain what caused the matter to come into existence in the first place? It does not, in fact can not, answer the question of the origin of matter. Thus, it would appear that the universe could not have always existed.

Whether their explanation is the Big Bang theory or not, scientists are essentially saying that something came from nothing or that everything exploded into something, which is a logical impossibility. To retain a theory of self-creation is totally irrational and rejects all logic. Such a theory can be believed but it can't be argued reasonably and can never be established as a fact.

The universe is still expanding and moving ever outward. This indicates or points back to some causal starting point. Simple American elementary science textbooks state that whatever begins to exist must have a cause equal to or greater than itself" (Rvsd. 2004, Sciences, standard texts, CA,TX, et. al.). By necessity, this must have a Causer. In the philosophical question over which came first, the chicken or the egg, the answer must be the chicken! It caused the egg. But the chicken must have already existed and where did it come from? Some cause, no doubt. Even the egg would require a cause. It must have absolutely had a Causer. To say that there are no absolutes is a paradox in itself? You can not be absolute about there being no absolutes. It contradicts itself. That sentence can not stand logically!

Psalm 91 speaks of an Absolute and He is the Great Causer who laid out the heavens and the earth. It came from the Great Someone who made absolutely everything out of absolutely nothing. Only God can do that. No one can say that there is absolutely no God unless they have seen all the universe(s) and all dimensions and throughout all eternity. He is God and He is as absolute as you sitting there! You may not believe in Him, but He does you.

Thanks for sharing this excellent write ♥ Theories often sound good - but haven't got the bang to back them up.

the big bang is when conciousness met with reality, and Bang! the story of everlasting life began with me and you.donot try to explain something only explainable in an everlasting life untill you are liveing forever.something of that sort.matter will only come round full circle when you try.then youl relize forever is where your answers will be, well answered, in dew time, but with no question.

Awesome article! I've always told people that even if the Big Bang Theory was true, something (or somebody) had to create the materials that went, "Bang!" Once again, those that try to discredit Creation are taken full circle right back to God.

Right on Jack. Great job!! The Big Bang is not an origination theory. It begs the real question. God bless!!

Hey Jack... Love your clear unapologetic apologetics! I am continually amazed at how scientific theories are held on the pedestal of so many...even when these theories have more recalls than 'Toyota'... bless you, Jack!

Thanks for the great article. God bless.

Thanks Jack for an informative article. I do not have enough faith to believe in the big bang theory!

Great article Jack. I never understood how people think that something like a human being could be made with a Big Bang. God created it all. And wow..didn't He do a great job?

    Wow Jack,
You certainly can pack a great deal of intelligence into just two pages of text. Your lines of reasoning would be very difficult for anyone to argue with. This is a great piece of work and it would appear that you put some time into it. Very well thought out and extremely well written. Keep up the great work.
    Blessings to you as always.

The only Big Bang I like is the CBS tv show on Monday nights and that is a funny show. God created the heavens and earth...enough said!
