The Biggest Loser, Episode 1 Recap and Season 4 Predictions

Season 4 of The Biggest Loser started off with a bang. As trainers Bob and Kim skydived in, the contestants had to race to each of them, making the first two finishers the team captains. The contestants range from a female paramedic to a radio dj to a lawyer to a set of twins to the oldest contestant in the show's history (Jerry, a 62-year-old IT project manager). Eighteen contestants started the race, but only 12 would join the Red and Blue teams

Jerry managed to finish the race first, becoming the team captain of Bob's team, the blue team.

The Blue Team:

Jerry, 62, IT Project Mgr, 297 lbs

Kae, 27, Ex Us Army Private, 225 lbs

Neil, 25 Chemical Engineer, 421 lbs

Patty, 34 Sr Loan Officer, 280 lbs

Nicole, 26 Radio DJ, 279 lbs

Ryan, 29 Lawyer, 374 lbs

Phil, an ex-football player followed and came in second becoming the captain of Kim's team the red team.

The Red Team:

Phil, 27, Ex-Football Player, 403 lbs

Bryan, 29, Music Teacher, 346 lbs

Amber, 30, Paramedic, 295 lbs

Amy, 28, First Grade Teacher, 297 lbs

David, 31, Cowboy, 368 lbs

Lezlye, 34 Paralegal/Hurricane Katrina Survivor, 255

The remaining six would be cast off to join the Black team to be trained by Jillian Michaels, who is returning after a year off of the show.

The Black Team:

Bill, 40, Financial Planner/ Twin, 334 lbs

Jim, 40, Police Officer/ Twin, 361 lbs

Julie, 34, Stay at Home Mom, 218 lbs

Isabeau, 21, Singer, 298 lbs

Jez, 24, Childrens Social Worker, 345lbs

Hollie, 28 Teacher/Cheerleading Coach, 255 lbs

With the selections having been made and the teams off for their first training session, the black team believing they were to go home. Jillian soon showed up clad in black on her street bike. The teams were excited but would soon learn they were to be pushed hard to get in shape.

Some contestants proved to be weaker than others. During the first race to form teams Amber finished last. While everyone was celebrating the fact they had made it thus far she was still walking to the finish. Every contestant joined together in solidarity to help her finish. The first day of training proved no better when she was the last to finish again, this time requesting of her trainer Kim, "Send me home."

The black team may have to weak links. Hollie, who cried during the first training, and Isabeau, who though she didn't cry, had a harder time than most during training. The two did finish their workout however, after much prodding by Jillian.

The blue team having yet to produce any weaklings competed against the red team in their first challenge. Each team had to carry baggage containing the amount of weight that each player wanted to lose from a baggage car to a twenty-one ton airplane, load it up, and then pull the plane across the finish line. The blue team started out strong with a solid lead, but could not get the plane to budge when it was time. The red team got the plane moving and blew the blue team away, for a prize getting to open letters they were sent, from family and friends.

After the first week each team had their first weigh in since starting. The red team, who started the competition with a combined weight of 1964 lbs weighed in first. Team captain Phil, who weighed to most on the team led the group in weight loss with a whopping 26 lbs, while weak link Amber trailed with a meager 7 lbs. The collective weight loss for the team was a solid 87 lbs.

The blue team's original collective weight was 1876. Once again, team captain Jerry proved that age was just a number, leading the team in weight loss with an astounding 31 lbs drop. The smallest member of the team, Kae, contributed largely to the loss number with 20 lbs. The collective loss for the team was an astonishing 109 lbs. The blue team, despite losing their first challenge, has taken the lead in the competition.

Having lost less weight than the blue team the red team was forced to vote a person off. During the deliberation Amber was called to the carpet by Lezlye. Lezlye informed Amber of the fact that she was disappointed and let down by Amber's lack of motivation, and how she let the team down. Every member of the team agreed and Amber was unanimously voted off The Biggest Loser.

The black team will be returning to the house to confront the teams that kicked them off after the first race. I predict that Phil, Kae, Jerry, Bill, and Jim will end up in the final stretch of the competition. Each of these players are highly motivated, and strong. If I had to guess who is going home next week, I would say that judging by starting attitudes and performances, from the blue team it would be Patty, and from the red team Amy.

All in all, the season looks like it will be very interesting, and motivating to anyone who wants to get on the weight-loss track. The info blurbs on the show are very useful as well. Tonight, I learned that three egg whites have only fifty calories, and dehydration stops your metabolism. So drink up.
