The Biggest Loser Season 10 Episode Recap from October 19, 2010
Only 12 Left, but Someone's Getting a Second Chance Tonight!
Second Chances: On the premiere episode of The Biggest Loser, 5 players were cut before even making it to the Biggest Loser Ranch. These 5 contestants, Anna, Corey, Montina, Sandy and Shanna were given a second chance tonight! Each of these 5 got to weigh in to see if they lost enough to come back. How did these players do at home? Very well actually! All of them lost more than 5% which is good for not having the trainers and the planned diets that the rest of the contestants have. However, only one could come back - Losing 39 pounds gave Anna the chance to join the other 12 contestants at the ranch.
Teaming Up: After playing as individuals since the start of the season, The Biggest Loser finally teamed up the players with Anna deciding on the teams. Anna would assign 6 to each team and leave 1 player on their own (and immune) for the week. Although she hardly knew the players, Anna did get a chance to talk to each of the 12 and get their opinions about which trainer they prefer. Multiple players told her that she should keep the immunity for herself. In the past creating teams has been a chance for players to cause some trouble, but Anna wanted to make everyone happy so tried to give them what they wanted.
The Blue Team (Bob Harper): Jessica, Aaron, Lisa, Mark, Jesse, and Adam
The Black Team (Jillian Michaels): Rick, Ada, Frado, Brendan, Elizabeth, and Anna
Anna decided against immunity this week because she really wanted to make sure she got on Jillian's team. This left Patrick immune and able to work with both trainers this week. Jillian was touched that Anna gave up immunity just to have her as a trainer.
Running Around Town: For tonight's challenge, the teams had to stop at various food stations around Los Angeles answering trivia questions. The first to make it through all 5 food stations would win the challenge and get free Biggest Loser meals delivered to their home for 40 weeks. Trivia questions were things like "which of these two dishes has fewer calories". The contestants were allowed to ask as many questions as they could about the dish. The Black team pulled ahead at the first stop but Anna was having a hard time keeping pace with her team when running. She made up for it by getting the answer right at the second stop while the Blue team got it wrong AGAIN.
Black got the next few wrong and Blue finally got one right so both teams were neck in neck at the last stop. It came down to both teams having to do 21 flights of stairs in order to win. Elizabeth started falling behind for the Black team so it looked like Blue had a chance! But due to some team work and pulling, Black won the challenge, the take home dinners and the letters from home. However after seeing how upset some of the Blue members were, Brendan, Anna, Rick and Ada all volunteered to give up their letters so some members of the Blue team could get them.
Game Play: Black was tossing away the idea of throwing the weigh in so they could get Patrick on their team. Brendan and Frado wanted Patrick because the three of them could "control the game" if they were together. Jillian gave the girls on her team a pep talk that they need to work hard to stay here. She also confronted the boys for even suggesting that they might throw the weigh in. Black together agreed NOT to throw the weigh in but it seemed some of them might still be thinking of playing the game instead.
The Weigh In: Blue was pulling so-so numbers, and most were somewhat disappointed in their weigh in even though they were still losing weight. However Jesse, the last to weigh in for his team, lost 16 pounds bringing their overall total weight loss to 62 pounds. Could the Black team beat this? Frado certainly was nervous making it seem like he might still have done something to throw the weigh in. However, Frado did lose 9 pounds with Jillian was proud of showing that he actually did try. Rick was disappointed in his 10 pound weight loss and it all came down to Brendan needing to lose 15 pounds in order for their team to win... and he claimed that he "played it straight" (i.e. didn't throw it) this week. Brendan only lost 2 pounds but still stuck to his story that he didn't purposely throw the weigh in.
The Vote: Ada was safe due to having the highest percent of weight loss on her team. All the others made their tear-filled arguments of why they should stay, even though Frado was confident he knew who was going home. Although it would have been easy to send newbie Anna home, Elizabeth and Rick's names were the only ones that got votes. Ok so it has to be Elizabeth right? She's the weakest. Well, turns out the Black team had a different strategy. Frado and Brendan stuck together to vote out Rick stating that their good friend Patrick would not vote Rick out in the future and he was a threat. That was a shocker!
Rick's Update: Rick was down 120 pounds in his update and still had a bit to go. Working out before and after work, with the support of his family, Rick is determined to come back and win the 100k dollar at home prize on the finale. Looks like he might just be able to do it! In addition to losing his own weight, Rick motivated his son to also start an exercise plan and he is losing weight as well.
Next Week: Frado, Brendan and Patrick think they got it in the bag, but will someone else shock and amaze them? Find out next week!
