The Biggest Loser: Season 10 Premiere Episode Recap from September 21, 2010
21 Contestants Fought for a Spot on the Ranch on the Premiere Episode
In each city, the trainers led a crowd full of people through a workout before welcoming 3 of the hopeful contestants. In order to get on the Biggest Loser Ranch, these 3 contestants competed against each other and only 2 were chosen to automatically make it on to the Ranch. The contest: Either a step aerobics exercise competition with the first two to make it to 500 step-ups automatically moving on to the show OR a one mile race where the first two across the finish line would make it to the show.
Detroit: Jesse (369) vs Sophia (272) vs Aaron (468). Aaron started out quick stepping but after getting ahead by a little bit he started to slow down and realized he wasted a lot of early energy. Sophia made it to 500 first by moving slow and steady. Jesse hit it next with Aaron still about 50 steps behind. Aaron managed to finish the challenge though! Good for him. Sophia and Jesse became the Orange Team.
Los Angeles: Ada (258) vs Adam (402) vs Montina (287). Montina's knee was wearing herself out to the point that she needed to take a break, but her husband kept pushing her forward. Ada hit the mark of 500 first followed by Adam leaving Montina behind. Montina's husband and son joined in to motivate and help her make it to the end. Ada and Adam became the Blue Team.
Portland: Corey (391) vs Burgandy (231) vs Tina (263). Season 7's Mike Morelli joined Bob Harper for this city. The three hopefuls set out to complete a one mile race. I can't decide if this is harder or easier than the "step-up" competition. Both are pretty intense for these out of shape contestants. Burgandy took off at the head of the pack while Tina and Corey remained close at a walking / jogging pace. Corey collapsed which motivated Tina to take off running ahead of him, but unfortunately for Corey he fell again and needed multiple people to help him up. His body wouldn't allow him to finish the race and the poor guy had to be taken away in an ambulance. So far it seems that the larger contestants have a slight disadvantage in these challenges, even though they are the ones that need the show the most. Burgandy and Tina became the Purple Team.
Atlanta: Patrick (400) vs Rick (350) vs Anna (330). Rick was the front runner this time during the race but Anna, the smallest of the three, was having a really rough time causing Jillian to go back and push (or pull) her forward. Patrick became the second contestant in his 400s to make it to the Ranch. They became the Green Team.
Phoenix: Jessica (282) vs Shanna (242) vs Mark (421). This city brought another race with cancer-survivor Shanna having the roughest time. Mark's father ran alongside him while a whole team of people ran with Jessica who was in the lead. Jessica and Mark finished first and second making them the Red Team.
Oklahoma City: Allie (322) vs Lisa (288) vs Sandy (259). Season 8 winner Danny Cahill joined Bob Harper for this city. The three ladies competed in the step-up competition which looks to be easier after watching how hard those races above were! Allie was the first to reach 100, then 300, with Lisa remaining in second. Sandy kept going out of fear of disappointing her family but sadly she finished in third. Allie and Lisa became the Pink Team.
Boston: Brendan (362) vs Elizabeth (244) vs Fredo (367). Season 5's Mark Kruger joined Jillian Michaels for the final city on the Biggest Loser tour. While the guys were pushing along ok on the step-ups, Elizabeth started to feel pain in her chest and needed her inhaler in order to keep going. She tried to push herself but apparently she shouldn't have as she collapsed in her effort to win the contest. Ok, maybe these step-ups are harder than they look! Because of Elizabeth's misfortune, Brendan and Fredo finished before her and became the Black Team.
7 teams were formed from these 7 cities, but the rest of them aren't out of it just yet! The eliminated contestants may just have another chance! Tune in Next Tuesday for a dramatic weigh right in the first half of the show!
