The Birthing Process

Learning you are going to become a mother is great news! So many thoughts run through your head...how you two are going to have so much fun playing together, laughing, tickling, teaching and learning from one another..but the one thought that doesn't really settle in at first is, "This is gonna hurt a little.."

The day I delivered my little girl is a day that will be etched into my memory for a very long time. I was actually enduced, so I didn't have the joy of being suprised by my water breaking in an embarrasing location or any of that jazz. My fiance and I had to be there at 6 am. Knowing I wasn't going to be able to sleep the night before, I prepared myself to try and look presentable for the process. What a joke. I got up that morning and straightened my hair and put on waterproof mascara. I couldn't take any chances!

We got ourselves up and around and in our family name fashion, arrived late to the hospital. I teased my fiance that we are in big trouble if we can't even arrive at the hospital on time to give birth to our daughter! They put us in a room, and there we sat for a while. I suddenly realized that I was starving like I really wanted a hamburger or something, but, alas, all I was given was a popsicle. I guess it got me through .

My doctor came in and broke my water around 8 am. We sat and watched Renaissance Man and then Jamunji on TV (guess it must have been a Robin Williams marathon) for the biggest part of the morning, and then the contractions started. When I became dialated to a 6, I screamed violently at my fiance to get me an epidural and now. He did as he was told. Smart boy. It only took the doctor three times to be successful with the epidural, but once he did it right, it was heaven.

My fiance decided that once I was feeling better that he was hungry so he went down to the hospital shop and got some food. While he was gone, the nurse came in and said I was now dialated to 10 cm and we were gonna start pushing in about 10 minutes. Boy, we were excited!

I ended up pushing for a little less than an hour and a half, and by that time, my epidural was no longer working. I was ready to have this baby girl out of my belly and in my arms. and finally, after 9 months, she arrived! Absolutely perfect. All the pain and waiting was worth it once our eyes connected. Our little baby girl was here...
