This Christmas season I have seen more publicity and hatred over the movie premier of Black Christmas and the saying of "Merry Christmas" than any thing else. Recently I saw a rather long interview with the leader of a Christmas group (I will call them "Operation Just Say No One Else Matters But Us") about how this movie is ruining the holiday and the Christian beliefs that go along with it.
Why oh WHY I ask does only America waste such time on such frivolous things. I am so tired of seeing the controversy over Christmas movies and the fight to bring the saying "Merry Christmas" back to the mass stores.
When there are children starving, families without homes, and a plethora of people without any gifts other than each other, we waste our time fighting movies and sayings that "violate" people's rights and hurt their feelings. What about those peoples feelings? Last time I checked with lived in America, the home of the FREE. FREE to watch whatever movie we like and spew any holiday greeting we choose.
I for one celebrate Christmas, but I do not expect every other person inhabiting every square inch of the United States to as well. Why on earth would it bother you that someone says "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas?" Do you feel that you are so special that only you and your specific religion should be included in the holiday cheer?
Americans need to wake up and realize that many religions exist here and that's what makes us the home of the free. If you want to live in a world that only caters to Christians feel free to go start you own country and allow no one in other than those that share your beliefs...but good luck with that since Christianity varies on so many different levels.
Isn't part of being a Christian acceptance? Are we not taught to turn the other cheek? Why should you be free to be offended and change everything, when others are offended by your choosing to change the world to your molded desires? You are never going to get away from differences, so stop trying to make everyone conform to your liking. We are not communist damn it and we do not have to do everything that your specific Christian group deems appropriate.
I refuse to bow down and boycott Black Christmas because it offends someone. Maybe I won't see the movie because I don't want to, or maybe I will now be first in line just to spite you! On the other hand, it offends me that you would try and have this movie taken away and deny anyone's right of viewing it because you don't like it.
Stop being selfish and thinking only of yourself. If you don't like the movie, don't go see it. If you want to say "Merry Christmas" by all means, say it. But you CAN NOT force everyone to cater only to you and your needs. You people should be ashamed of yourselves. They say history repeats itself, and you are the kind of people who created war because of indifference.
No one came to you and told you to put away your nativity seen or take down your Christmas lights, all that was asked was that store employees keep in mind that not everyone shares your beliefs. Happy Holidays is just as peachy as Merry Christmas when coming from a store associate, how on earth are they suppose to know what you believe in. No one said you couldnt say "Merry Christmas" back to them or in exchange.
Why don't you stop thinking of how offended you are and start thinking of the people who live in the United States who are bombarded with Christian holidays and are forced to carry money that states "In God We Trust." You of course could care less about their feelings though, as long as you are pacified thats all that matters. Just keep in mind that you are judged when you die and good luck dealing with that big black mark on your books!
If you really want to be a Christian, read the bible some more and if all else fails have your ears removed so no one offends you anymore. Otherwise stop dirtying the Christian name because not all of us want to be grouped with the likes of you.

Post a CommentThe boycott is all about practicing one's freedom of speech. The Atheiest would like nothing better than to rid the USA of Christmas but that is another story.
MerryChristmas!
Right on!
I definitely agree. If they don't want to watch the movie, there are other filems to see. I wonder if it would surprise them to know that this is also a remake ( my favorite genre is horror ) and I have the original, Margo Kidder is in this one. There are so many other things to be upset about and you have also pointed out this fact as well. They are people here, in the land of the free, who are starving, homeless, no gifts t give nor recieve, no food to eat even though they have a roof over their head. They need to go help those that need it and leave subjects of no consequence alone.
First, I'm in the media, and I've never heard of Black Christmas, let alone feel the need to boycott it. I have been in the house too much recently, I guess. People calling for a boycott are not harming this movie. The rule is any publicity, positive or negative, is publicity.
I completely agree with you, and I think the world would be a better place if everyone learned to stop stepping on each others toes. I dont think global acceptance will ever ever happen sadly. Too bad too.
