The Black and Yellow Puffer Fish: Brackish Small Pufferfish

Shannon Frye
You're probably wondering what brackish means because most people do not know what brackish means. Brackish means that the fish cannot be placed into a freshwater tank and it cannot be placed into a saltwater tank. A brackish fish must be in a fish tank that contains a little bit of salt in the water. It doesn't require as much salt as your average saltwater fish but you will still need to place some salt into the water to keep the fish alive. You cannot expect this fish to live in a freshwater or saltwater fish tank. If you are looking to purchase a brackish fish you can consider a puffer fish which is yellow and black in color.

This Puffer Fish is great because it stays very small at around two inches. You don't need a huge tank to keep this puffer fish alive and healthy. You can place this fish into a 20 gallon tank if you want to. This fish will need to be in a temperature of around 70 to 80 degrees. You will need to place a heater in the tank to keep the fish from freezing. You will want to purchase a timer for your light so that you don't over heat your fish tank and leave the light on for too long through the day which causes an algae problem as well.

This fish is not like some other types of brackish fish. This fish is very aggressive. You will have to keep this fish all by itself which is the case with all puffer fish that are brackish because they are venomous. Some saltwater puffers can be with other fish but you will need to be careful. If you are looking for a brackish fish that you can place into a community tank than this fish is not a good choice for you because it needs to be in at least a 20 gallon tank all by itself. This fish will kill other fish if you place them together.

If you want to purchase this fish I would recommend going to your local Petsmart and purchasing this fish. You can purchase this fish for around $6 from any local pet store which has brackish fish. Most pet stores will not separate the brackish fish and they will place them in a saltwater or freshwater tank instead of a brackish tank like they are supposed to be in. Ask the pet stores if they carry and brackish puffer fish that you can place in your fish tank.

Are you talking about the Figure 8 puffer? They need at least 15 gallons each. There is also the Green Spotted puffer which is yellow-ish and black, but they need 55 gallons each.

An article about fish nowadays should have at least a picture of the fish. I want to see what fish you're talking about.

The article is like coming from year 199x era.
