The Blame Game

How Some People Make Me Sick

Ashby Koss
Some people make me sick. When a true tragedy occurs they lash out at ever possible thing that could have "caused" the tragedy, instead of taking the truth like the hard to swallow pill that it is. The truth is that the tragedy cannot be blamed on anyone other than the single person who caused it or the cannot be blamed on anybody like the Hurricane of Katrina. But media and many other people have to try don't they. When Katrina ripped through the nation, people turned towards FEMA and the Government trying to point fingers, the truth was that all of the energy that some people spent pointing their finger is spent helping could have fixed up the Katrina damage 3 times faster than it did get fixed. When there was some mall shootings or the Virginia Tech shootings, everyone of course firstly pointed at the shooter then looked at his life looking for drugs, violence,or some life fact that made them "crack".

I think it is human nature to try and blame anything but the thing that causes the problem. If someone does something stupid they try to quickly find the "reason" that they did what they did. Of course using it as a scapegoat instead of facing the facts and owning their mistakes. Some researchers believe that this seemingly innate human nature may be the source of the thought of Hell and the Devil. By blaming something as powerful or deep in "myth" or religion, which ever way you choose to see the situation, can keep you from almost ever having to face the facts about a mistake. While I ma not be able to sit here and express to you the far reaching of this discussion I can try and walk you through the deeper parts, well mentally walk you that is.

The Devil's main weapon against mankind, no matter what religion you follow, is the power of the sin. The sin is that action, thought, or event that you help to take place either fully or partially help it to come to fruition. By someone blaming the "sin" or the Devil for the source of the sin they are scapegoating the truth and avoiding the confrontation of themselves. While this may be a "weak" way out, it has proven over time to be a great tool in the personal mental well being of some people, for it seems that everything that happens is the Devils fault. The tricky part truly comes when discussing the subject with someone of religious background, strong religious beliefs, or strong anti-religious beliefs, because their view is as I like to called "jilted" or bias. Since every person is raised in different situation of religion and different environmental and social settings all these factors vary, and the truth I do not believe will ever be full figured out. While I am not going to support any religion or bias towards one way or the other, I also do not believe total unbiased position is possible because of human nature and background growing up, but I can try my best.

While no one like to take the slap of the blame, I believe that just blame must be placed and excepted. To turn our backs and blame music, video games, movies, or the "evil" in our lives is far to simplistic and base for a healthy person. To stand up and take responsibility, while sometimes harder than the avoidance game, is the right thing to do. While taking the time to blame something else or even take the time to look for something else to blame, these people could be using this energy to help. While I too find it very important to take care of any reasons of negligence or wrong doing like finding mental instability earlier than when a tragedy occurs, But I am sick of the pointing and accusations. As President Lincoln once said "our future is our children" and if they are to have a healthy and mentally sound life growing up and a god "life experience" than we must resist the blaming urge and point our children towards helping even in the smallest way when possible rather than slandering those that may have helped cause the problem, of course fight that fight but fight it later.
