The Blind Side

"The Blind Side" is the true story of pro football player Michael Oher and his adopted family the Tuohy's. This movie puts forth great principals and values without being preachy. It's quite the surprising accomplishment. The story is made all the more fascinating because it's true. Sandra Bullock (Leigh-Anne Tuohy) was very good and is worthy of her Oscar nomination and win for best leading lady.

Our hero, Michael Oher is a below average intelligence, black eighteen year old. He is in a hell of a crappy situation: he's been to numerous schools the last few years where he was passed to the next grade only so someone else could deal with the trouble of teaching him. His mother is a crack addict, and has an estimated eleven other children. On top of all this, Michael doesn't really have a home. He sleeps on the couch of a family friend now and then, and has one set of clothes.

As I said, this movie put forth some solid values without being preachy or cramming down them down my throat. Even if I agree with what's being said, generally I hate over zealous, and high and mighty films (I'm looking at you "Facing the Giants" *shudder*).
