The Blind Side - a Great Movie!

Recalcitrantem
The Blind Side is a movie about NFL football player Michael Oher's origins. Based on a true story (Oher is a real person!), the movie shows how he went from being a homeless teenager no one gave much thought to to his being adopted by the Tuohy family, a well-to-do family. Some of the antagonism in the story is based around people, but most of the story is Man vs. Environment. Michael has everything stacked against him - he's not considered terribly smart, he's homeless, he's a large black male, his mother is a drug addict, he's from a rough area of town. Leigh Anne Tuohy doesn't let that stop her from adopting Michael and making him part of her family, even including him in a Christmas card!

Sandra Bullock headlines The Blind Side as Leigh Anne Tuohy. She's donning sleek blond hair and isn't terribly recognizable with her heavy accent, a testament to her acting skills. Country music star Tim McGraw plays Sean Tuohy, the patriarch of the family who tends to bow to Leigh Anne's wants, but he does it with grace. Quinton Aaron plays Oher; he hasn't been in a ton of movies you may have seen him in Be Kind Rewind. Jaae Head steals the show as the Tuohy's son S.J., who knows what he wants out of life, and Lily Collins plays Collins Tuohy, the daughter.

I went to see The Blind Side at Christmastime with my mom. It was a great holiday movie, and a good family movie, too. My mom's always had a thing for based on true story movies. I wasn't sure I'd like it because it's a football movie and I'm not a huge sports fan, but there was enough non-football story for me, too. Most of the movie is Mrs. Tuohy helping Michael (in a mildly commandeering way) turn his life around; clothes, a tutor, and football. At the beginning of the movie, Michael doesn't even know how to play! The movie is a great, uplifting you-can-do-it story.
