The Blind Side tells the story of a large, poor black youngster named Michael Oher, who got taken in by a well-off but charitable white family. The mother of the family, feisty Leigh Anne Tuohy, was the driving force in helping Michael find love, and a career in football. Eventually, Michael rose from poverty to become an NFL lineman for the Baltimore Ravens.
The story of The Blind Side is one of those that couldn't be made up, unless it was true. But according to reviews, the movie is less about Michael Oher, and more about Leigh Anne Tuohy and her family pulling Michael up by his bootstraps. Some critics have a problem with this, as the film turns the story into one long tale of white guilt.
But other Blind Side reviews don't mind so much, since the story of Michael Oher is too remarkable to completely mess up. And although Leigh Anne is the main role instead, Sandra Bullock makes many critics not mind it so much.
Bullock has had a pretty up-and-down year, with a big hit in The Proposal, and the worst reviews of her career in All About Steve. In the rubber match of Bullock's 2009 movie year, The Blind Side is her second win out of three, it would seem. Since the film is a drama, and outside of Bullock's romantic comedy comfort zone, this is more of a win for her.
The Blind Side reviews are at a fair 70% positive on Rotten Tomatoes, which rules that "It might strike some viewers as a little too pat, but The Blind Side has the benefit of strong source material and a strong performance from Sandra Bullock."
Even with strong reviews and Bullock, The Blind Side will have a hard time making money in the midst of New Moon hysteria. However, if parents have free time after taking their teenage girls to New Moon, then The Blind Side may help them readjust to the grown up world.

Post a CommentI went and saw this movie on Friday and it was by far the best movie I have seen in years. I had a story line, no cussing/violence, just a great movie that the whole family can watch.
I went and saw this movie and I absolutely loved it. Sandra Bullock is one of my favorite actresses and I think she was excellent in this movie. I don't think this story has anything to do with race or white guilt. It is simply about a family that is doing something great in a person's life who would have never had the opportunity otherwise.
I went to this movie Friday night. Hands down one the bst movies I have seen in years. Those who throw race into this movie need to take a step back. I thought that Bullock was amazing in this movie. The whole cast was amazing, This young man was going nowhere in life due to the circumstances he faced. This family showed him love and a way he can make something out of his life even if it was something other than football. They gave him hope. Now look at where he is a starting O lineman in the NFL. I will say it again those who say this is abour race are just ignorant.
