My friend Josh and I decided to give ourselves a post-Thanksgiving treat by checking out John Lee Hancock's film the Blindside, which is based on the true story of Baltimore Raven's offensive tackle Michael Oher. The film follows Oher's years as an impoverished teen in Memphis, Tennessee, his academic and social struggles at Wingate Christian School, and adoption by the southern well-to-do Tuohy family. Originally the film was adapted from the 2006 book The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game written by Michael Lewis.

I dare anyone who watches this film not to get teary eyed during the initial fifteen minutes of the film. I fought back tears because it was very sad to an innocent young man caught up in an unfortunate situation.

In my opinion, Sandra Bullock gives an Oscar worthy performance in her role as Michael's opinionated and loving mother Leigh Anne Tuohy after her disastrous role in the movie All about Steve.

Keep your eye on: Jae Head (I think this kid is going to be a star in the future), who played the role of S.J. Touhy. He did a tremendous job providing comic relief as Michael's friend and brother.

You will like this movie if you liked: Gran Torino and Remember the Titans.

Overall impression of the film: One of the better film's I have seen in quite a while. This is a must see film because it has the appropriate mix of humor, sadness and inspiration. This is a feel good movie to take the significant other, grandparents, mom, dad or friends because the message of never losing hope, persevering despite the obstacles and helping other's in need resonates with most people. One doesn't need to be a football fan to appreciate Michael's journey from poverty and illiteracy to prominence. This film will keep the viewer engaged from beginning to end. By the end of the film, one can't help but to cheer for Michael Oher.
