The Blood in All Men's Veins

William Burkholder
On purple mounted majestic seas,
billowing sails on a despot breeze,
slashed bare the backs of angry slaves,
amongst the purple mounted bloody waves,

The lash and chains in horrific chorus
beat down the pride and freedom.

The spirit rises with each and every wave
and for freedom these people fight and crave.
No dollar or coin can pay the price
No simple man can deny this.

A foreign shore became their home,
yet, they were not welcomed.
The greed and hate of planter men
Did their best to cave them in.

From douglas, to King, Malcom and the rest,
they have risen above these hateful crests,
And shown a true mans worth,
through the eye of slavery they have passed,
and survived.

Yet more needs to be done, more to achieve in
the embrace of our fellow man,
Color means nothing,
save for the blood,
that flows in all mens veins.
