The Blue Buffalo Company has issued a voluntary recall for some of their BLUE label dogfood on October 8, 2010.

The company discovered that one of their supplement manufacturers had just completed an order for another company that had a high Vitamin D content. When changing over to the Blue Buffalo Company's order, there may have been an error in the amount of Vitamin D used and a higher-than-called for supplement of the vitamin D may have been made.

The dog foods affected by the recall include:

BLUE Wilderness Chicken (Dog) 4.5 lb, 11 lb, and 24 lb bags with the best used by dates of: JUL1211B, JUL1311B, JUL2611Z, JUL2711Z, JUL2811Z

BLUE Basics Salmon for Dogs in 11 pound and 24 pound with the Best Used By dates of AUG2111B, and AUG2211B.

BLUE Large Breed Adult Chicken in the 30 pound sack with the Best Used By dates of SEP 22 11 P, SEP 23 11 P and OCT 26 11 P.

If you find you have one of these recalled sacks of dog food, stop feeding it to your dogs immediately. Call Blue Buffalo to arrange for return of the product and reimbursement at 1-877-523-9114.

Typical symptoms might include excessive water intake and/or excessive urination, and in some cases vomiting. If your pet has been exposed to any of the Blue Buffalo recalled foods and shows any of the symptoms, consult with your veterinarian.

According to the letter issued by Blue Buffalo about the voluntary recall, "Blue Buffalo will reimburse any veterinary or testing expenses related to illness caused by these products."

The company never uses corn, wheat or rice as fillers and provides high quality all natural nutrition.
