The Blue Ox Bar & Grill in Ocean City, Maryland - Restaurant Review

Beth Benson
The Blue Ox Bar & Grill was our first stop after a long drive from Pittsburgh, PA to Ocean City, Maryland. It didn't take long for us to decide to try this establishment considering it was right across the street from our hotel, at 126th Street and Coastal Highway.

The Blue Ox Bar & Grill sports a large cartoon blue ox on its restaurant sign that catches your eye for several blocks up and down Coastal Highway. The outside of the Blue ox has the perfect accessories to show that it's a bar and grill scene. Outdoor seating with colorful umbrellas and neon beer signs blinked in broad daylight, luring you in.

Upon entering you are greeted by a friendly wait staff and the sight of a large bar and lounge, a kid's game room, and a ton of televisions. The Blue Ox will appeal to anyone of any age. We had arrived at around 3pm and there was still about a half hour wait time to be seated, but it was worth the wait. Our waiter was very friendly, funny, and had a great personality. It is always nice to eat at a restaurant where your waiter is familiar with the menu items and can answer any questions for first time diners.

Even though The Blue Ox is known for its 10 oz. handmade burgers, we can get a burger anywhere in Pennsylvania. We wanted the fresh seafood. So I ordered the fried crab cake sandwich for $12. This sandwich was huge. A large, I mean large, lump of crab meat that was lightly fried on a toasted roll with lettuce, tomato, and a side of hand cut French fries. This was no imitation crab meat; this was straight out of the ocean several feet away from where we sat. My boyfriend ordered the shrimp salad sandwich, $12 cost as well, that he loved and ate it faster than I ate my meal. Both of our meals contained more crab and shrimp than other fillers. Normally when you order such meals, you can't find the seafood and are over-run by the mayonnaise or other salad spread fillers, but not at The Blue Ox.

The Blue Ox Bar & Grill was very clean and the friendly and fun atmosphere made it a great start to our vacation in Ocean City, Maryland. I highly recommend adding The Blue Ox to your feasting stops throughout your Ocean City vacation. Affordable, delicious fresh seafood... you can't beat it!
