Located on Prince George Street, only one block from the main thoroughfare of Historic Colonial Williamsburg, the Blue Talon Bistro is a fine dining establishment certain not to disappoint its patrons. The food at the restaurant is wonderful, the atmosphere relaxed, and the staff polite. (map)

Service at the Blue Talon Bistro is prompt and courteous. When I ate there last, for example, even though it was peak dinner time on a Saturday night, I was seated immediately and my order came in plenty of time. I ordered their "Meatloaf," a delicious dish with a deceptively simple title. The meatloaf came, after a very short wait, served on a cast iron skillet, surrounded by asparagus, sliced mushrooms, and mashed potatoes. The whole affair had been covered in a rich, delicious sauce about the consistency of good gravy. The flavors of the sauce and meatloaf complemented each other well, and the meal was delicious from first bite to last.

The Blue Talon Bistro is a bit more expensive than some of the other restaurants in Williamsburg, but I think most people will find that the difference in food quality is well worth it. A dinner entree at the Blue Talon will cost between $15 and $25, with a very fine hamburger also available for only $11. I would say that the prices are more than reasonable for food of this quality.

I should also mention that the Blue Talon Bistro is also opened for breakfast and has, in my opinion, the best breakfast in Williamsburg. Billed under the heading "serious comfort food," a Blue Talon breakfast plate costs around ten dollars, and leaves a person full and satisfied. My favorite breakfast item at the Blue Talon is simply called the "breakfast platter." This filling and delicious start to the day consists of eggs, sausage, Virginia ham on a biscuit, potato cake and grits. The portions are generous and filling, making this meal a perfect choice to precede a day of sightseeing in nearby Colonial Williamsburg. My father, who grew up her in Williamsburg and has lived in Virginia most of his life, declares that the Blue Talon Bistro makes the best grist he's ever had.

Customers with special dietary needs might find more variety elsewhere. The Blue Talon has only one dish which is explicitly called vegetarian, a tasty plate of crepes stuffed with white beans and grilled vegetables. A moajority of their salads, which cost between $5 and $10, are also vegetarian. Strict vegans may have some difficulty at the Blue Talon, although I am certain that the polite and superbly confident staff will be able make some arrangements for them if the need arises.

I know a fair amount about music - performing, recording, and just listening. I read Ancient Greek and Latin pretty well, and generally appreciate things that have been around forever, like ruins, old saying...  View profile
