This salt water fish grows on average to be around 12 inches. Ideally a tank size of 70 to 100 gallons is desired. The Blue Tang is peaceful by nature to most of their tank neighbors. However, if you are considering having more than one Blue Tang in your tank you should purchase them together. Ironically they have been known to become aggressive among their own species.
A nice balmy temperate of 76 to 80 degrees is ideal for the Blue Tang. They enjoy to eat plankton in small amounts twice a day. As they age you should also incorporate dried algae and seaweed into their diet twice a week. This helps to keep their immune system on track. For an added treat occasionally feed them brine shrimp.
The Blue Tang can be purchased relatively inexpensively. However, a salt water tank requires a lot of upkeep and a special skill to keep it running smoothly. Make sure you do your research before purchasing one. If you feel you are up for the challenge and you have the time to properly take care of the tank then go for it. The Blue Tang is definitely one fish that I would recommend for any salt water tank. This clever quirky little fish is fun to watch. Think along the lines of Dory from Disney's Finding Nemo.
The Blue Tang is an extremely active fish who love to swim around and show off their beauty. Make sure to include some live rock in the bottom of your tank. This gives them a great hiding spot for when they want to take a break and retreat. A lot goes into successfully taking care of fish in a salt water set up. Knowledge and patience can go along ways. Being able to enjoy salt water fish like the Blue Tang make it all worth while.
