The Booda Dome Clean Step Cat Litter Box: Review

A Good Option for Nervous Cats

R. J. Gardiner
I have a cat problem. I have two cats, one normal and one not-so-normal. One of my cats likes to sit in the same room with us, enjoys when people visit, and is very loving. My other cat has anxiety problems. He spends much of the day hiding under the bed, jumping at the sound of cracking twigs, and having mild heart attacks when strangers come over.

This frightened cat does not enjoy going into the laundry room, where we kept our litter box. We kept it in there because it is out of view of guests and keeps the odor from the rest of the house. Unfortunately, the nervous cat begins to howl in terror if you try to take him in there. He used the litter, but with great reluctance.

I was hoping to find a cat litter box that I could put somewhere else in the house that would not look disgusting and not stink up the house. I ran across an igloo-shaped cat box at a store and wondered if it might be what I was looking for. It was called the Booda Dome Clean Step Litter Box. I decided to give it a try.

After getting rid of my old litter boxes, I introduced our cats to the new litter box. They had no problems in adjusting to it, and seem to like the privacy that the covered box provides. The litter box comes in several colors(to match décor?), and is as pleasing to the eye as a cat box can be. I put it in the family room tucked in a corner behind the couch. It is not noticeable, and I have never had a guest comment on its appearance.

Also, the cat box is good as far as keeping unpleasant scents contained. The lid keeps the odor contained within the box, and there is even a filter on the lid that you can change which is supposed to help absorb odors.

With regards to cleaning the litter box, I have not had any difficulties with the Booda box compared with the usual rectangular-shaped cat boxes. The lid pulls off and on easily, and there is generally less litter kicked out from the box, as the dome keeps the litter inside. The cats do track a little bit of litter out the box as they walk down the steps, but this is a minimal amount in comparison to the piles of litter my cats used to kick up in the lidless litter boxes we used to use.

The Booda Dome Clean Step Litter Box can be found at most pet products store and costs around $30. It is more expensive than other litter boxes, but for me and my cats(especially the nervous one), it has been worth it.
