The Bookstore

A Poem About Brooke's Book Stop

Etienne J. Sarfelli
I scan the aisles of the bookstore
looking for something to catch my eye
Seeking my destiny on a bookshelf
reality and fiction collide
But the titles run together
or the stories are all the same
the novels have all been written
like all the authors around the world share one mind
Imaginations are not what they used to be
life experience means nothing anymore
I wander through the collections of books
maybe hoping for a chance encounter in the mystery section
breathing in the scent of literature
taking in the atmosphere
And then the passion for reading ignites again
The bookstore itself is rustic
even charming, maybe quaint
It's a journey into yesterday
it's a storybook unto itself
The setting, the characters, the theme
It's an action, it's an adventure, it's a mystery,
it's a romance, it's a beautiful story
it's written in my mind
as I scan the aisles of the store.
