The Borzoi, a large breed dog with a super long snout. He is tall and slender. Doesn't sound very attractive, but as every dog lover knows, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and this breed of dog is a beauty to those who know and love them. The Borzoi is also known as the Russian Wolfhound. This Russian bred dog makes an excellent family pet, as they are very affectionate and loyal. The Borzoi is a clean dog that enjoys it's family very much and with gentle, not harsh, training can be a well behaved and layed back pet that will get along well with family members and other dogs but should be watched around other pets. This dog will always be a chaser of small animals, no matter how well trained they are. They were bred to be very agile to aid in hunting wolves. He was once the protector of his people and their livestock in Russia. However they are not territorial so the bite rate on this breed is very low. it may not be advisable to have the Borzoi living with small children who will be too rough with it. They are excellent and fast runners with their greyhound like bodies. He or she will need a decent size, safe yard to run around off his leash. His exercise is important for his overall development, happiness and well-being.

Keep the rules clear and never stray from them, this dog needs confident consistent leadership. The borzoi should have two or three small meals a day, opposed to large meals. They are very prone to bloat. Never allow them to exercise right after a meal or become too excitable. As puppies, be sure to provide proper nutrition and socialization. The Borzoi can become bored and then stubborn. Overall this sensitive breed has a special connection to people and a quiet respect for us. If well bred this breed is calm natured and happy to lounge around inside the house. Be sure to provide this large dog with a good soft bedding. This is a dog prone to smiling at you, which is a show of submission.

As this is an elegant and graceful animal, it is often used in art. The coat is silk like and the undercoat thickens during cold weather. The Borzoi comes in many different colors but is usually primarily white. Of course there is shedding especially in warm weather or climates.
