The Boston Celtics Are No Fluke

In the online sports communities, which I frequent, there is a lot of talk about recent deals made by the Celtics. The big news is that the Celtics traded five prospects for Kevin Garnett. Danny Ainge's other pre-season dealings also brought Ray Allen to the team. This means that the Celtics have three All-Stars, which brings them back into contention.

But sports fans and Celtics fans alike are shooting down these recent dealings. Some Celtics fans resent the fact that we traded Al Jefferson, Ryan Gomes, and Gerald Green who are all awesome prospects. There are also some un-informed fans who said that the Celtics traded too many players (5) for only one. This is un-informed because the Celtics already had too many players. After the dealings they still have 12 players, which is what you need to field a team.
The most prominent argument, however, is that the Celtics still won't contend because of the absence of a good bench. In Celtics history, the four consecutive years they won the championship with Larry Bird and the other Celtic greats, they only had what was considered as a good bench for one of those years. Now, the Celtics have three veteran players who are used to playing a lot of minutes per game. There are also rumors that Reggie Miller might be coming to the Celtics to finally contend for a ring. This might change the All-Star count to four. There is also no disregarding the fact that the Celtics still have some great prospects including Rajon Rondo and Tony Allen.

When asked what these moves would mean for the Celtics, many people said that it would mean more jersey sales. This definitely isn't a factor to be over-looked. The money that was included in the deal for Garnett has most likely already been made up for in full through Garnett, Allen, and Pierce jerseys. Not to mention that it will be impossible to get tickets to the games. This brings even more money into the organization to invest in newer prospects and more great assets to the team.
Many true Celtics fans understand that this is one way to over-come the ineptitude of their head coach, Doc Rivers. One user said, "Even Doc can't screw up this trio." Another user jokingly replied, "Don't underestimate Doc's ineptitude."
Most importantly, the Celtics are going to be exciting this year. Even if they don't make it into the finals or even the playoffs there is no chance of this being a dull season. In the years past Celtics fans have endured too much hardship. This is the year that the fans are rewarded for their loyalty.
