The Boy and the Meaning of All Meanings

A Meaningful Story

Rebekah Raine
There once was a boy that looked for a meaning a meaning that he could never find. He decided to take a trip to find the meaning of this unanswered question he thought of. Over the hills and beyond the mountains he traveled for days bringing nothing but a bag of fish, and water. he continued with his journey only to find understanding in all he already knew. Why is the grass so thick and beautiful he thought?, Why does the rain pour on the earth?, but for some particular reason he wanted to know the meaning of meanings. After a week of countless traveling he found himself in a field of flowers and trees he sat down under a tree not like any other it stood shorter then the others, and its leaves were solid gold.

What an incredible tree thought the boy who's journey brought him this far. So without a second thought the boy took leaves from the tree that had the golden leaves. He plucked them of their beauty and decided to sell them for his own personal wealth. " What a wonderful gift I have leaves of gold they will make me rich now I can buy whatever I wish." Years had passed and the boy was now a man his wealth brought great things cloth's, shoes, and all the pleasures of life, but one thing still baffled the rich man what is the meaning of all meanings? he thought.

Just then a poor little boy walked by his cloth's were clearly worn his shoes had holes from heel to toe, and he clearly looked as if he hadn't eaten in days. " Please sir have mercy on me and buy me some food." No! said the man with the wealth " I will not buy you food for it is earned." Once again the boy pleaded " Please sir just a little food I'm very hungry I have not eaten in days." Once again the wealthy man said no. For you will pay said the boy with no food as he pointed a finger at the wealthy man for you have riches and you buy whatever you wish you will never find the meaning of meanings I promise you that."

The rich man clearly had not a care in the world and one little threat was not a problem to him he continued on with his wealth glancing just once more to notice the boy was gone. Years had passed and the man was now a old man living his life with every pleasure that he could desire. Then one day the money was gone all of it he had spent every dime and now he was without friends sadden by these actions the man decided to go back to the tree with the golden leaves. Once before as when he was a boy he took a bag of fish, and water. Now a trip that took him a week as a boy took weeks.

Finally tired and out of food and water the old man found the field of flowers and trees. He once again found the tree that was shorter then the rest, but it was dead. The old man cried as he sat there with no wealth to gain and realized that his biggest personal wealth was his kindness and for the fact that he never showed it therefore made him a poor man the whole time. He realized that the meaning of all meanings was not threw his wealth, as he layed down to rest he heard the voice of a child in the wind " Food is earned." As the old man layed he realized that his wicked ways would be the death of him and he never found the meaning of meanings.
