"The Boy Named Sue" Who "Walked the Line" Belongings Are Up for Auction

Johnny Cash, one of the most famous musicians who reigned from the country music capital of Nashville, Tennessee will have a number of his personal items go on the auction block at Julien's Auction's in Los Angeles, California in early Dec. 2010. As most country music fans probably know, this infamous music giant left this world in Sept. 2003, a mere 4 months after his almost equally famous wife, June Carter Cash passed away.

An unspecified portion of the proceeds from the auction will benefit MusiCares, a charity that helps musicians with health and financial problems, which Johnny Cash himself experienced in his early career days as a musician. Many of the items that are going to be auctioned are said to be sold by unidentified "family-related" entities.

Guitars, costumes, and other memorabilia owned by the "Man in Black" will be put on the auction block at Julien's. A free public exhibition of the items will begin on Nov. 19 in Beverly Hills. The auction is already attracting strong interest from investors and overseas fans, according to CEO Darren Julien of Julien's Auction House. He went on to say that Johnny Cash is very much a global icon and has a fan base that is as extensive as Michael Jackson's.

Some of the Johnny Cash items are expected to bring in thousands of dollars. A Martin D-28 acoustic guitar that Cash wrote the first 4 lines of the hit song "I Walk The Line" and signed his name on is estimated to range in value from $20,000 to $30,000. Cash's handwritten lyrics to dozens of unrecorded songs will also be up for sale and range in value from $2000 to $4000. The lengthy sale will include 1000 lots and is expected to last for a number of days.

A sale at Sotheby's Auction House in 2004, designed to pay estate taxes after the death of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash raised almost $4million, according to Darren Julien.
