The 'Breathe' Tattoo Club: Jordin Sparks, Miley Cyrus, Lindsay Lohan, Drew Barrymore

Last week, Jordin Sparks debuted her "respira" tattoo, which translates to "breathe." The slimmed-down singer says that the ribcage ink commemorates her role as Nina Rosario in Broadway's "In the Heights" last fall.

Sparks isn't the only celeb to sport ink reminding her to breathe:

Drew Barrymore

Drew's "tattoo" wasn't as permanent as the ink that Jordin now sports, but it was no less artistic. The jovial actress sported the doodled word along her left forearm on the red carpet of the 2010 premiere of "Going the Distance" in London. Barrymore said of her temporary adornment, "My friend drew that with a pen, a Sharpie. I like drawing on myself. Just key words or phrases are important to remember. 'Breathe' is a really good one."

Miley Cyrus

In 2009, Miley got the phrase "just breathe" tattooed on the left side of her ribcage. The ink was a tribute to departed loved ones: a close friend who died of cystic fibrosis in 2007 and both of her grandfathers, who died of lung cancer. "It reminds me not to take things for granted. I mean, breathing -- that was something none of them could do, the most basic thing," Miley told Harper's Bazaar in 2010. "And I put it near my heart, because that is where they will always be."

Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay got the word "breathe" tattooed on her wrist in white ink in 2006. During an appearance on Ellen DeGeneres' talk show, she confessed that the permanent ink serves a purpose, saying, "I forget to breathe sometimes."

Although tabloids used the opportunity to mock the troubled blonde, Lohan's "breathe" tattoo was actually inspired by a scary scenario: an asthma attack. "The attack was a big deal, so I wanted to commemorate it on my body as a reminder," she said.

Who will be the next celebrity to join the "breathe" tattoo club?
